Along the way, enjoy spectacular views of rolling hills, terraced farmlands, and picturesque rural landscapes that characterize the Great Lakes region. After completing border formalities between Rwanda and Uganda, continue through beautiful countryside toward Bwindi, one of Africa's most biologically diverse forests and home to nearly half of the world's remaining mountain gorillas. Arrive at your lodge in the afternoon or early evening, depending on your pickup time and assigned park sector. Trekking duration varies depending on the location of the gorillas and terrain conditions, typically ranging from 2 to 8 hours, including hiking through thick forest, slopes, and narrow trails. Once the gorillas are located, you will spend a magical one hour observing them in their natural habitat. After the trek, return for lunch and preparation for your cross-border journey to Rwanda. Later, drive to Volcanoes National Park. The transfer from Bwindi to Volcanoes National Park takes about 4 hours. The trek usually takes between 1 to 3 hours, depending on the location of the troop, with an additional hour allowed for observation once the monkeys are found. After the trek, return to your lodge for lunch, check out, and begin your journey back to Kigali. The drive from Volcanoes National Park to Kigali takes about 2.5 to 3 hours.
