7-Day Bushmanland Etosha Tour

Waterberg Plateau Park, Namibia

7-Day Bushmanland Etosha Tour

5.0 / 5 · 29 reviews Offered by PEA Tours and Safaris 7-Day

Overview

This is a combination of culture and wildlife tour. The main goal will be to visit the San People (Bushmen) in their natural area. The San population has been living in the vast Kalahari Desert region for over 20,000 years. Besides visiting them on a cultural tour, on our way there you will meet them going about their daily chores and one can interact with them in lodges where they are working. We will explore the Waterberg and part of Etosha as an icing on the cake before returning to Windhoek.

Windhoek- Arrival

Day 1

Windhoek- Arrival

You will be transferred from the airport to Windhoek. Depending on the time of arrival, you will embark on a city and township tour. During the three hours tour an experienced guide gives a detailed insight into the history from the German colonial times that influenced history and culture of the Namibian capital. The Reiterdenkmal (horse rider monument), the Alte Feste (Old Fort), the Christuskirche (church) and the oldest building of Windhoek, the old ammunition building, as well as Windhoek’s three castles are being visited. The highlight of the tour is the visit of the ‘slum’ or ghetto area Katutura and finally the drive onto a hill at the Goreangab Dam, from where you can enjoy a great view onto Windhoek. If you get time, stroll the city at your own pace. Luxury hotel located in Windhoek (City) Breakfast (Lunch & dinner not included) Drinks not included

Namibia Central Plateau- Waterberg

Day 2

Namibia Central Plateau- Waterberg

After breakfast, your guide will transfer you to the Central Plateau area of Namibia, the Waterberg. Upon arrival, you have several options of trails to hikes that you may do on your own at your own pace. Explore the valley of this private nature reserve on your own, on five demarcated trails with viewpoints. Information boards tell you stories about the spring, animals and occurrences. One of the trails is about the history of the Waterberg area. Take a walk back in history to a site of the Battle of Waterberg (1904) and to a camp for Herero refugees (1906) – events that influence Namibian-German relations till today. Information boards outline and explain the unfolding of the shared history of Herero and Germans. In the afternoon, we will embark on a sundowner drive with high chances of encountering white rhinos. Bushmanland- The San People of Kalahari Desert

Day 3

Bushmanland- The San People of Kalahari Desert

After breakfast, we will drive to Bushmanland. Enroute to our destination, we will visit the world heaviest metallic meteorite, the Hoba Meteorite. It weighs about 60 tonnes, and analysis suggests it is mostly iron (80%) and nickel with traces of cobalt. After lunch, we will make our way more eastwards to Bushmanland. We have time to feel the tranquility of the lodge area before dinner. On the second day we have a full day excursion with the San people. Accompanied by San hunters, in search of warthog, springbok, springhare, porcupine, and large birds. It is not guaranteed that you will have success but, the thrill of tracking and stalking potential prey is exhilarating. It is to show one how they used to live traditionally and adjust to the Kalahari Desert without much surface water. We will experience traditional singing around the campfire, San woman playout their ritual games and the men mimicking antelope and giraffe movements. Eastern Etosha National Park

Day 5

Eastern Etosha National Park

After breakfast, we will drive to the eastern part of Etosha National Park. We will have time for an afternoon game drive. On the second day we will embark on a full day game drive, exploring this part of the park. It is a 22 270 km2 park with 114 mammal species and over 350 bird species. Etosha means “Great White Place” in local Oshindonga language, referring to the 4800 km2 salt pan that covers 23% of the park’s surface area. Mammals include Black and White Rhinoceros, Lion, Leopard, Cheetah, African elephant, Plains and Hartmann’s Mountain Zebras, Southern Giraffe subs angolensis, Eland, Gemsbok, African Wild Cat, Spotted and Brown Hyaena among other animals. It is quite unique in its own way as the concentration and diversity around waterholes in the dry season in magnificent, giving one a chance to see animal dramas unfolding as they make turns to quench their thirst. Birding is quite good as well. Mid-range lodge located inside Etosha NP All meals included Drinking water (Other drinks not included)

Amazing trip

We had an amazing 'Etosha dash' trip with PEA Tours and Safaris. Solid, clean, comfortable en up for the job vehicle and driver. Communications beforehand and during the trip were effective, pleasant and clear. Prev's knowledge of the country, wildlife, culture, venues, etc was impressive en we had many many questions answered. I would definitely recommend PEA Tours and Safaris for an amazing customized trip to the beautiful country of Namibia.

Wonderful experience, highly recommended

The suggested itinerary matched perfectly with our preferences. All accommodations were carefully chosen and according to our budget. Everything was very well planned and well communicated in advance (driving times, facilities, activities) and there was still room to profit from last minute opportunities. Our guide/driver was very knowledgeable about animals, birds and the country. He was always in a good mood and eager to satisfy our requests and questions. PEA Tours has always been quick to respond when planning the tour. Our Namibian Grand Tour was a wonderful experience and highly recommended for anyone wanting to explore Namibia.
