Arrival in Windhoek and drive to Etosha

Day 1

Arrival in Windhoek and drive to Etosha

Welcome to Namibia! After a (hopefully) relaxed flight, you have arrived in Windhoek, the capital city of Namibia. You will be transferred to the car rental company where you will receive your rental car. It's finally time to drive toward Etosha National Park. On the circa 4-hour drive, you can stop in Otjiwarongo for a coffee and snacks. The Bohemia Book Shop Café is recommended as they offer sandwiches and cake in a cozy atmosphere. If you arrive early enough, you could even spend this afternoon in Etosha National Park. Etosha National Park sets the scene for Namibia’s foremost wildlife showcase. Here, a series of waterholes guarantee spectacular game viewing, flanked by mystical, open grasslands along the edges of the inhospitable Etosha Pan. Day 2

Full Day - Experience Etosha

Today is spent on a self-drive safari! It is recommended to start early in the morning to have the best chance to spot animals just after sunrise. With a bit of luck, you might be able to see lions, hyenas, elephants, rhinos, and more, though the other animals of Etosha Park should not be underestimated. Huge herds of zebra, wildebeest, and springbok roam the area, coming surprisingly close to the safari cars. Should you prefer to be guided by a professional guide, it can be arranged at an additional cost. Drive to Erongo Region

Day 3

Drive to Erongo Region

Your self-drive adventure takes you to the Erongo mountains, a geological wonderland shaped by volcanic ruins. This area is renowned for breathtaking rock formations and landscapes, home to diverse flora and fauna. Here you can view the natural rock bridge at Spitzkoppe, capture unique sunrise/sunset pictures, or explore special bushmen paintings found in various rock formations in the region. In the evening, make sure to enjoy a guided sundowner walk before your dinner plans. Day 4

Drive to Swakopmund

Prepare for a picturesque drive today toward Namibia's beautiful coast. After an approximately 2-hour drive, you will reach Swakopmund. Favored by travelers and locals alike for its rich history and vibrance, this German-influenced town and its lively beach make for the perfect summer destination. The evening can be spent in one of the numerous restaurants such as "The Tug" or "Jetty 1905". Reservations are recommended for both restaurants. Swakopmund offers many activities such as scenic flights, guided seal and dolphin cruises, living desert tours, Hafeni township tours, dune boarding, dune quad tours, and skydiving. Day 5

Full Day - Explore Swakopmund

Today you enjoy a free day in Swakopmund. A day in Swakopmund offers a variety of activities and experiences to discover the beauty and diversity of this unique coastal town in Namibia. Take walks along the coast, partake in adventurous activities, take a trip into the Namib Desert or explore the city's historic colonial buildings. Highly recommended activities include the Sandwich Harbor Tour and Pelican Point Kayaking. The 4x4 tour to Sandwich Harbor takes you in a 4x4 vehicle up and down the steep dunes to the viewpoint from where you can see the high dunes of the Namib Desert ending right in the Atlantic Ocean. Jackals, springboks and oryxes can also be seen in this barren landscape. The Kayak Tour promises an exciting experience with hundreds of seals in the Atlantic. They like to get up close and personal with the kayaks and play with the paddles. We are more than happy to add these activities to your personalized itinerary. Drive to Sossusvlei

Day 6

Drive to Sossusvlei

Today marks the beginning of an extraordinary adventure as you venture into the heart of the world's oldest desert - the Namib Desert. Your base for this unforgettable journey is the renowned Dead Valley Lodge, a desert oasis where comfort and serenity merge seamlessly. As the sun sets, retreat to the tranquil Dead Valley Lodge for a delectable dinner and a chance to reflect on the day's wonders, knowing that more extraordinary experiences await you in the Namib Desert. You will spend the next day in the Sossusvlei area and you can also choose to explore the Namib Desert from above. Optional activities such as hot-air balloon rides and scenic flights to the dunes can be booked with us. As these flights are dependent on the weather, it is recommended to schedule these activities for the first day in Sossusvlei to be able to potentially reschedule if the weather conditions make it necessary. Experience the Red Dunes and Stunning Desert Scapes

Day 7

Experience the Red Dunes and Stunning Desert Scapes

Today, you will explore the Namib-Naukluft Park with the world-famous Sossusvlei and its high dunes, as well as the Sesriem Canyon. In the early morning, the lights and shadows at the dunes are amazing. The first stop should be Dune 45 where you can take beautiful pictures of the S-shaped dune with the perfect lighting. Later on, you can explore Deadvlei and Big Daddy, potentially the highest dune in the world. On the last 3km toward Deadvlei, the road is made of relatively deep sand. If you are an experienced driver, adjust the tyre pressure and use 4x4 mode to get to the parking. If you do not feel comfortable driving under these conditions, make use of the shuttle services available for this part. Hiking up Big Mama and Big Daddy might take your breath away, but the mesmerizing views are definitely worth the sweat. Enjoy the day and wander around Deadvlei with its ancient trees. In the afternoon you can explore the Sesriem Canyon, naturally paved over millions of years. Unless you choose to extend your stay, you will drop off your faithful companion at the car rental company and get transferred to the airport. Safe travels! Impeccably orchestrated experience that combined flawless logistics and authentic local insight.

Our experience with Viatu was nothing short of exceptional—their communication was prompt and thoughtful, service seamlessly professional, and every detail reflected remarkable reliability and value, culminating in a tour so immersive and well-curated that it felt less like a trip and more like a masterclass in hospitality and precision. Simone was our trip consultant and she was absolutely phenomenal.

Mardi is experienced, knowledgeable and diligent

Mardi organised the most amazing holiday for us in Namibia. I usually do all our travel research, plans and booking but Nambia is vast with so many choices I am so glad I got Mardi to work on our itinerary and book everything She was professional and personable. The planning calls were great and really felt personalized. We loved every place we stayed and she got the right mix of balancing the budget and spending in places where it was worth it. Her itinerary was spot on balancing the mix of driving and activities. Always flexible and prepared to look at different options - think she really understood the type of people we were and what we would like. Great call a week before we left to go through everything, questions and some good travel tips. Car Hire was great and the Viatu App was really useful through out the trip. We felt that everything we did was worth it - just wish we had more time in Nambia, It is a fabulous country to visit and we loved our time there . Thanks Mardi!!

Viatu planned the best and most magical trip of our lives in Namibia

Mardi from Viatu planned every last little detail for our 12 day driving trip around Namibia. This trip exceeded our expectations, from the amazing wildlife to the breathtaking landscapes and the beautiful Namibian people. It truly was the trip of a lifetime. Everything went so smoothly.. We were a bit nervous about the long drives, but they gave us the chance to appreciate the stunning country. Viatu would check in on us to make sure everything was going ok. Definitely use Viatu to book your bucket-list trip. Thanks Mardi!
