Tour step
You'll be collected from the airport. Accommodation before the tour starts can be arranged for an extra cost.
Day 1
On arrival, you will be met by the car rental company representative and transferred to their offices in Windhoek to complete all rental procedures. Once done, we'll arrange for you to meet with our meet and greet representative to hand over your travel documents and travel package including your map. You'll then start your Namibian adventure with an easy 300-kilometer drive, the majority of this is on a good tarred road to Kalahari Anib Lodge. Budget tented camp located less than 1hr drive from Mariental (Town) Meals at own expense Drinks not included
Day 2
The trip continues further into the south of Namibia. You will encounter an amazing natural phenomenon: the Fish River Canyon. About 650 million years ago, plate movements formed a lowered area, along which the ancient Fish River could flow and eventually erode a flat plain, which is today's start of the canyon. Where the surface suddenly comes to an abrupt end, the ground drops for a vertiginous 500 meters. From several viewpoints, you will have spectacular views over the Canyon. At Ai-Ais you will find natural hot springs. The viewpoint at Hobas offers a spectacular view over the canyon. Meals at own expense Drinks not included
Day 3
Depart the camp and continue to Aus, where there’s the possibility to see some desert-adapted horses, which are believed to be left here by the Germans in the first world war. The campsite is situated in a small valley of the Aus Mountains. Here you will find several hiking trails, which you can explore at your own expense. Meals at own expense Drinks not included
Day 4
You'll depart the camp and drive along the Namib Desert to Sesriem. Red dunes, distinguished from each other by sharp lines, an eye-blinding white salt pan and scorched black trees… Sossusvlei is probably the most well-known image of Namibia, and cannot be missed on any trip. The shapes and contrasting colors make it almost seem surreal. Climb some of the world's highest dunes for the most spectacular sunrise and sunset, a feast for the eye! This part of the Namib-Naukluft Park is called the “Namib Sand Sea”, as far as you can see there are dunes of red sand. After arrival at the campsite, the rest of the afternoon can be spent at your own leisure. This gives you the opportunity to visit the Sesriem Canyon (at your own expense). Meals at own expense Drinks not included
Day 5
If you are an early bird and are fascinated by the idea of being at Sossusvlei for sunrise, have a word with the park staff to find out at what time the gate opens (normally about an hour before sunrise) and head out towards the dunes as early as you can. For those more inclined to sleep and less fussy about having to be in the dunes for sunrise, try to get an early start as the dunes are best experienced before the sun reaches its zenith. Park at the 2x4 car park (unless you have a 4x4 vehicle this is as far as you can drive), Sossusvlei is a further 4km from here but you are already amongst fairly large dunes. When you have had enough sand—head back to your vehicle (there really is no shame in taking the shuttle back—the sand is likely to be hot, and the walk less pleasant than the one in the cool of the morning.) This afternoon, you can relax around the campsite pool before heading to the nearby Sesriem canyon. Meals at own expense Drinks not included
Day 6
The fascinating drive today takes you northwest through the awesome and ever-changing desert landscapes of the Namib Naukluft National Park, including the impressive Gaub and Kuiseb canyons. Stop in Solitaire to refuel. The bakery is pretty good too. As the weather in Swakopmund can be a bit damp (or very windy & hot), we think it is best not to camp for the nights we are here instead, chose a guest house that offers good value for money. On arrival, check into your accommodation before heading out for a drink, dinner and a night in the town. Mid-range guest house located in Swakopmund (City) Breakfast (Lunch & dinner not included) Drinks not included
Day 7
There are a host of adventure activities to participate in while in Swakopmund. These range from sandboarding through quad biking to sky-diving. No activities are included in this package but they can be pre-arranged when you book this itinerary or left for you to arrange on arrival in Swakopmund. Being a German-inspired town, good food and beer is never hard to find. We are sure you will find something productive to do! Mid-range guest house located in Swakopmund (City) Breakfast (Lunch & dinner not included) Drinks not included
Day 8
Your trip continues into a more arid area, the Spitzkoppe (also referred to as Matterhorn, due to its shape). The campsites are located in all types of interesting rock formations, with different trails leading around them. Guided climbs and abseiling can be arranged at an additional fee. Meals at own expense Drinks not included
Day 9
Continuing on your safari today, the road takes you north and east into the wonderful and diverse region of Damaraland. You'll pass Namibia’s highest mountain, the Brandberg which peaks at 2,573m above sea level and take time to view the game and absorb the vastness of the scenery along the way. Damaraland is typified by displays of colour, magnificent table-topped mountains, rock formations and bizarre-looking vegetation. Meals at own expense Drinks not included
Day 10
The drive to Etosha National Park is a scenic few hours through more of Damaraland's singular beauty. The Anderssons Gate is much closer to Damaraland and will take about three hours. The park measuring approximately 22 270sq km is home to most species of typical African wildlife. Lions, elephants, rhinos and various sorts of antelopes freely roam the plains around the vast salt pans, saline desert, savannah and woodlands. Your accommodation on this night is situated in the park, which gives you the opportunity to experience the Etosha nightlife at the Okaukuejo waterhole. Mid-range chalet located inside Etosha NP Breakfast (Lunch & dinner not included) Drinks not included
Day 11
The accommodations and campsites in the park give you the opportunity to travel through the park at a slow pace. You will be the driver of your own safari, which is unique in Africa. However, camps in and around the park do offer guided game drives. Look around for lions, cheetahs and leopards. At sunset, make yourself comfortable at one of the park’s waterholes at your accommodation, and see how elephants, giraffes, zebras and antelopes gather to drink some fresh water. This is a truly unforgettable experience! Mid-range chalet located inside Etosha NP Breakfast (Lunch & dinner not included) Drinks not included
Day 12
The whole day is dedicated to exploring the national park and game viewing. You will have time to stop at various waterholes while making your way to the eastern side of the park. An elevated walkway along the King Nehale waterhole gives you once again the opportunity to experience the surrounding scenery and wildlife while watching the sun set. Just outside Etosha NP Breakfast (Lunch & dinner not included) Drinks not included
Day 13
Your destination is Okonjima and the AfriCat foundation. Apart from the beautiful location, stunning accommodations and wonderful meals, the main reason for visiting Okonjima is to view cats. Okonjima Lodge offers a wide spectrum of accommodations, ranging from well-appointed private campsites to breathtaking safari lodges. Inside Okonjima NR Meals at own expense Drinks not included
Day 14

5.0/5Family of 4 travelling around Namibia with a quick stop to Victoria falls and Botswana for 32 days. I didn’t know where to start!! I am glad Great Explorations Namibia was there and did all the planning + we were very last minute and they make it happen. Anja was so helpful and so patient with all my questions and respect our budget. She reply quickly to all my requests. Lili was also very helpful and Peter at the car rental. Anja met us on the 1st day and went through the itinerary with us. We had 2 roof top tents and we camped every night. Namibia is now our number 1 country (for it’s beautiful scenery, for the people, for the experience and amazing campsite/lodge). Highly recommended!!!

We found Great Explorations after receiving several answers that indicated that it was too late to plan the trip (2 months before). The team not only answered positively but inmediately understood our expectations, type of experience we wanted and respected our budget. Replies were quick and detailed and the first programme was complete and very well explained. We requested to make slight adjustments that were inmediatly done. The accommodation proposed throughout the trip was excellent and most of the lodges were simply exceptional. Upon arrival, the staff took to time to personally welcome us, review the programme day by day and gave valuable advice. We felt that we had a reliable support for anything we might need along a road trip of many kilometers often in remote areas, Overall a perfect partner for a unique experience. Special thanks to Anja who was extremely professional, available and helpful.

The precision and professionalism of Anja allowed the creation of a perfect trip. Thanks to her help and patient everything was organized in an amazing way, starting from the car rental to the choice of the lodges and the interlocking of activities that allowed us to not miss anything of what this incredible country has to offer. We highly recommend them!

my assistant Anja was fantastic, in everything. Very quick in contact, already during the planning she gave me advice but also followed my instructions on what I wanted. And she's nice as well as competent. But above all, during the trip he solved various problems for me (not regarding reservations, we didn't have any problems with this!) that I would not have been able to handle alone. This was very important. I will never thank her enough. I would recommend Great Exploration Namibia to everyone.
