Day 1
Addis Ababa to Dinsho (Bale Mountains Entry)
Depart from Addis Ababa and travel south through scenic highlands toward the Bale Mountains region. Arrive at Dinsho, the gateway to Bale Mountains National Park. Set up camp under juniper and Hagenia trees at around 3,200m altitude. Begin your first wildlife encounters with sightings of Mountain Nyala, bushbuck, and warthog. In the evening, enjoy a guided nature walk through the woodland ecosystem, introducing you to the rich biodiversity of this Afro-alpine environment. Day 2
Dinsho to Senetti Highlands & Tullu Dimtu
After breakfast, explore the Gaysay grasslands, known for rich wildlife including Nyala, jackals, servals, and abundant birdlife such as the Abyssinian catbird. Continue through Robe and Goba before ascending into the dramatic Sanetti Plateau, reaching altitudes above 4,100m. Here you may spot the rare Ethiopian wolf in its natural habitat. Continue to Mount Tullu Dimtu, offering breathtaking panoramic views before settling into a high-altitude eco-camp or lodge. Harenna Forest Exploration
Spend the day exploring the lush Harenna Forest, a mystical Afro-montane wilderness. This region is home to endemic wildlife including Bale monkeys, forest birds, and occasional sightings of larger predators such as leopards. Walk through dense forest trails and discover wild Arabica coffee growing naturally in its birthplace. Visit traditional coffee-growing villages and learn about local harvesting methods. Today embark on a guided trek or horseback journey to the spectacular Rafu lava formations, a dramatic basalt landscape resembling natural stone pillars. The area offers surreal scenery perfect for photography and exploration. Return to your eco-lodge for relaxation and warm meals by the fire. Our one-day layover tour in Addis Ababa turned into one of the most memorable parts of our trip, all thanks to Mulie from Royal Ethiopia Tours.
