Tour step
You'll be collected from the airport. Accommodation before the tour starts can be arranged for an extra cost.
Day 1
Spend the next few days exploring the Danakil Depression, one of the most extreme and otherworldly landscapes on Earth. Known as the “hottest place on the planet,” it sits at the meeting point of three tectonic plates and features vast salt flats and vivid geothermal formations in striking shades of yellow, orange, and green. Today’s highlight is Erta Ale Volcano, the “Smoking Mountain,” famous for its rare active lava lake. After a challenging 5–6 hour drive over rugged terrain, you’ll reach base camp for a short rest and early dinner. Then, hike to the summit at sunset to witness the glowing crater, where the heat and sound of bubbling lava create an unforgettable experience. Descend back to camp and spend the night under the open sky. All meals included Drinking water (Other drinks not included)
Day 2
After breakfast, travel deeper into the Danakil Depression to visit Lake Afrera (also known as Lake Giulietti), a remote hypersaline lake named after explorer Giuseppe Maria Giulietti. Here, observe the Afar people’s traditional salt harvesting, where large crystals are cut by hand and transported by camel. Continue to Hamed Ela Camp for an overnight stay. This simple desert camp, home to the resilient Afar community, offers a unique glimpse into life shaped by centuries of salt mining in one of the world’s harshest environments. All meals included Drinking water (Other drinks not included)
Day 3
Today, we will start our day by a drive to the Dallol region, which is one of the lowest points here at 116 meters below sea level. The area's volcanic features create a dramatic and unforgettable scenery, with volcanic cones and craters scattered throughout the area. We will then drive back to Mekele for overnight. Mid-range hotel located in Mekele (City) All meals included Drinking water (Other drinks not included)
Day 4
Drive from Mekelle to explore the rock-hewn churches of Tigray, including a visit to Abuna Yemata Guh, for its dramatic cliff-face location and 6th-century wall paintings. The artwork includes a dome depicting the Nine Saints, who played a key role in spreading Christianity in Ethiopia. Accessible via a guided hike with some climbing and rope support, the church rewards visitors with ancient frescoes and breathtaking mountain views. This visit is recommended for travelers with good fitness levels and no fear of heights; comfortable shoes and clothing are essential. In the afternoon, drive back to Mekelle and take a flight to Addis Ababa. Overnight in Addis Ababa. Mid-range hotel located in Addis Ababa (City) All meals included Drinking water (Other drinks not included)
Day 5
After breakfast, explore Addis Ababa, starting with the Ethnological Museum, set in the former palace of Haile Selassie, showcasing Ethiopia’s rich cultural heritage. Continue to the National Museum of Ethiopia, home to the famous fossil “Lucy” and remarkable archaeological treasures. Visit Holy Trinity Cathedral, the resting place of Haile Selassie and Menen Asfaw, then experience the vibrant Merkato, one of Africa’s largest open-air markets. In the evening, enjoy a traditional Ethiopian farewell dinner with music and dance before your transfer to the airport. All meals included Drinking water (Other drinks not included)

4.5/5I’m a solo female traveller, and I really enjoyed this tour with Saleamlak. I felt completely safe the entire time; he’s very knowledgeable, approachable, and flexible. He shared many stories about his country, it’s clear he knows a lot and has a wealth of experience. It’s a shame I already had the rest of my trip planned; otherwise, I would have taken another tour with them. Good price as well .

My tour to Debre Libanos and Blue Nile Gorge was wonderful. This excursion was a first in my trip to Ethiopia, and it was a good first impression. Our guide was exceptional. He explained everything clearly, answered all our questions with patience, and ensured everyone in the group felt included and comfortable throughout the day. Everything was interesting and well-organized. From the ancient church and museum to the Portuguese Bridge and the panoramic views. I highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting the region.
