Day 1
Depart Nairobi at 7 am and drive northwest through the scenic highlands, crossing the equator en route to Nanyuki town before continuing to the Sirimon Park Gate at 2,660m for lunch. Here the trek begins, winding upward through magnificent montane forest and dense bamboo zones before opening into the giant heather moorland — a surreal landscape of tree heathers draped in old-man's beard lichen. After three to four hours of gentle, well-graded trekking covering 9km and 680m of ascent, arrive at Old Moses Camp at 3,300m for a hot dinner and overnight rest beneath a vast, unpolluted mountain sky. Budget mountain hut located on Mt Kenya Lunch & dinner (Breakfast not included) Drinks not included
Day 2
Rise early and head deeper into the mountain's dramatic interior, trekking 14km and climbing 900m over approximately seven hours through the spectacular Liki and Mackinder Valleys. The landscape transforms dramatically as altitude increases giant groundsels and towering lobelia plants line the trail, creating otherworldly alpine scenery found nowhere else on earth. Panoramic views open up as you gain height, and on clear days the twin technical summits of Batian and Nelion tower impressively above camp. Arrive at Shipton's Camp at 4,200m, eat an early dinner and rest as much as possible the summit push begins at midnight and every hour of sleep counts. All meals included Drinking water (Other drinks not included)
Day 3
The most demanding and most rewarding day of the entire traverse begins at midnight, departing Shipton's Camp by headtorch across frozen scree and rocky terrain with some minor scrambling near the top. On moonlit nights the glaciers and rock faces glow in an extraordinary silver light that makes the effort feel almost dreamlike. Reach Point Lenana at 4,985m just in time for sunrise — one of the most powerful moments in African adventure travel, with Mount Kilimanjaro occasionally visible shimmering on the distant horizon. Descend to Minto's Hut for a full hot breakfast before continuing down into the dramatic Gorges Valley, passing the Temple, Mushroom Rocks and the Giant's Billiards Table. Admire the breathtaking Lake Michaelson sitting in its glacial cirque directly below the main peaks before arriving tired, fulfilled and triumphant at Mt Kenya Bandas at 2,900m for a well-deserved overnight rest. All meals included Drinking water (Other drinks not included)
Day 4
A deeply rewarding exploration day based from Mt Kenya Bandas, dedicated to soaking in the finest scenery the Chogoria side of the mountain has to offer. Begin with a morning hike to Lake Ellis at 3,450m a pristine high-altitude lake stocked with rainbow trout, surrounded by giant groundsels and sweeping open moorland, one of the most peaceful and visually stunning spots on the entire mountain. Continue along the Gorges Valley trail, taking in dramatic rock formations and the extraordinary volcanic landscape that makes the Chogoria route famous among experienced trekkers worldwide. Descend past the spectacular Nithi Falls, a dramatic waterfall cascading through the lush forest edge, before returning to Mt Kenya Bandas for a final overnight rest a perfect, unhurried close to the mountain experience before tomorrow's descent. All meals included Drinking water (Other drinks not included)
Day 5
Wake to one final morning in the shadow of Africa's second highest peak before beginning the descent through Chogoria's legendary bamboo and rainforest a lush, cathedral-like world entirely different from the dry, open Sirimon ascent and one of the most beautiful forest walks in all of East Africa. The trail winds through towering bamboo, ancient podocarpus and cedar trees alive with the calls of Hartlaub's turaco and silvery-cheeked hornbills overhead. Wildlife is commonly encountered on the lower trail, including forest elephants, buffalo, black and white colobus monkeys and bushbuck moving through the dense undergrowth. Reach Chogoria Gate and board a waiting 4x4 vehicle down to Chogoria town for a celebratory lunch. Take time to thank and tip your guides and porters before driving back to Nairobi. Arriving in the city by early evening with memories of five truly extraordinary days on Africa's most beautiful mountain. Breakfast & lunch (Dinner not included) Drinking water (Other drinks not included)

5.0/5We spent 4 wonderful days on safari. Everything was perfectly prepared, in accordance with our arrangements. Josephine is very communicative and professional in what she does. Solid and unobtrusive. We had a great guide with whom we felt safe and could see everything we dreamed of. We will definitely come back.

We didn't know what we wanted so we requested Lilac Roller Safaris to recommend an itinerary. Josephine was fantastic, her communication was quick and she ensured that our accomodation was to the standards we wanted. We went to Tanzania and did the Ngorogoro Crater and also the Serengeti which was absolutely amazing. Our game drivers were very well experienced and they were quick to drive us around the vast national park to see amazing wildlife! Highly recommended could not find a fault.

Benjamin Mauko · Kenya
One of the best experiences in my life. Josephine helped me through the entire planning process and made it very clear on what I could expect once we arrived. Edward was an awesome guide and very knowledgeable. I can't say enough of the great things about them and our safari. I look forward to booking with this company (Lilac Roller Safaris)again in the future
