Day 1
Nairobi – Samburu National Reserve
Your adventure begins with a pick-up from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport or your preferred location in Nairobi. After a safari briefing, drive north through the Central highlands of Kenya, passing scenic farmlands and small rural towns before gradually descending into the semi-arid landscapes of northern Kenya. You will arrive at Samburu National Reserve in time for lunch at your lodge or camp. Later in the afternoon, head out for your first game drive across this rugged reserve known for rare Northern species such as the Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, Somali ostrich, Beisa oryx, and gerenuk. The Ewaso Nyiro River that flows through the park attracts numerous wildlife, including elephants and predators, offering excellent photographic opportunities before returning to the lodge for dinner and overnight. Day 2
Exploring Samburu National Reserve
Spend a full day exploring the unique ecosystems of Samburu National Reserve with extensive game drives across its acacia-dotted plains and riverine forests. The reserve is renowned for its distinctive wildlife species, often referred to as the “Samburu Special Five”, which are rarely seen elsewhere in Kenya. As you traverse the reserve, your guide will help track elephants moving along the Ewaso Nyiro River and possibly spot lions or leopards resting in the shade of the trees. The dramatic scenery of dry riverbeds, rocky outcrops, and open plains provides an authentic wilderness feel. Between wildlife encounters, your guide will share insights about the Samburu culture and the delicate balance between wildlife conservation and the pastoral communities living nearby. Day 3
Samburu – Lake Nakuru National Park
After breakfast, depart Samburu and journey south toward the Great Rift Valley, arriving at Lake Nakuru National Park around midday. The drive offers beautiful scenic viewpoints as you descend the escarpment into the valley. After lunch, enjoy a game drive through this compact but wildlife-rich park famous for its rhino sanctuary. The alkaline waters of Lake Nakuru attract a variety of birdlife, including flamingos and pelicans, while the surrounding woodlands provide habitat for Rothschild’s giraffes, buffalos, zebras, and both black and white rhinos. The park’s acacia forests and open grasslands also offer opportunities to encounter lions and elusive leopards. As the sun sets over the lake, return to your lodge to enjoy dinner and the peaceful atmosphere of the Rift Valley. Lake Nakuru – Masai Mara National Reserve
Enjoy breakfast before departing for the legendary Masai Mara National Reserve, driving through the dramatic landscapes of the Rift Valley and passing traditional Maasai villages along the way. Arrive at your camp or lodge in time for lunch and some relaxation. Later, set out on a game drive across the vast golden savannahs that make the Mara one of Africa’s most celebrated wildlife destinations. The reserve hosts an incredible concentration of wildlife, including elephants, lions, cheetahs, leopards, and large herds of grazers. The open plains make wildlife viewing especially rewarding as animals roam freely across the ecosystem. The Mara is also globally famous for the great migration, when thousands of wildebeests and zebras cross the plains. Discovering Masai Mara
Today is dedicated to exploring the spectacular landscapes of the Masai Mara National Reserve. The reserve’s vast grasslands, scattered acacia trees, and river systems create ideal habitats for a remarkable variety of wildlife. As you traverse different sections of the park, your guide will interpret animal behavior and help locate the resident predators that the Mara is famous for. Large prides of lions often rest in the shade during the day, while cheetahs can be seen scanning the plains for prey. Along the Mara River, you may spot hippos and crocodiles basking on the banks. The day offers endless photographic opportunities as wildlife interactions unfold in their natural setting. In between game viewing, enjoy the breathtaking scenery that stretches endlessly across the horizon before returning to your lodge for dinner and overnight. Day 6
Masai Mara – Lake Naivasha
After breakfast, depart the Mara and travel back across the Rift Valley toward the tranquil freshwater lake of Lake Naivasha. Upon arrival, enjoy a scenic boat ride across the lake where you may see hippos submerged in the water and a variety of birds such as fish eagles, kingfishers, and cormorants. Later, you may choose to continue to Crescent Island for a guided nature walk (optional, at an extra cost). This private sanctuary allows visitors to walk safely among grazing wildlife, including giraffes, zebras, and antelopes, while enjoying spectacular views across the lake and surrounding escarpments. The peaceful environment provides a refreshing change from traditional game drives and offers excellent opportunities for photography. Lake Naivasha – Amboseli National Park
Following breakfast, depart the Rift Valley and drive south through Nairobi toward the magnificent landscapes of Amboseli National Park. Arrive at your lodge or camp in time for lunch and some relaxation while enjoying views of Africa’s highest mountain rising in the distance, Mount Kilimanjaro. Later, embark on a game drive across Amboseli’s open plains and seasonal wetlands. The park is renowned for its large elephant herds that roam freely against the dramatic backdrop of Kilimanjaro. You may also encounter buffaloes, zebras, wildebeests, giraffes, and numerous bird species inhabiting the marshlands. The scenery is particularly stunning as dust-covered elephants walk across the plains with the snow-capped mountain towering behind them. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight. Exploring Amboseli National Park
Today is dedicated to further exploration of Amboseli National Park, one of Kenya’s most scenic wildlife areas. After breakfast, you will head out for an extended game viewing experience across the park’s diverse habitats, which include open savannah, acacia woodlands, and marshy wetlands fed by underground water from Mount Kilimanjaro. Amboseli offers excellent wildlife viewing opportunities, particularly for elephants that roam the plains in large family groups. The park’s open terrain allows for clear views of wildlife against the dramatic backdrop of Kilimanjaro when the skies are clear. Throughout the day, your guide will take you to different areas known for wildlife activity, including Observation Hill, where you can enjoy panoramic views of the park and surrounding landscapes. Amboseli – Tsavo West National Park
After breakfast, you will enjoy a morning game-viewing drive in Amboseli National Park as you exit the park and continue toward Tsavo West National Park. Upon arrival, you will proceed with wildlife viewing as you explore this vast and rugged park known for its volcanic hills, lava flows, and diverse ecosystems. One of the highlights of Tsavo West is the beautiful Mzima Springs, where crystal-clear waters emerge from underground streams flowing from the Chyulu Hills. The springs attract a variety of wildlife, including hippos, crocodiles, and numerous bird species. Tsavo West – Tsavo East National Park
After breakfast and check-out, you will enjoy a morning game-viewing drive as you depart Tsavo West National Park and proceed toward Tsavo East National Park, one of the largest protected wildlife areas in Kenya. The landscape gradually changes into vast open plains dotted with acacia trees and red-soiled terrain that gives Tsavo East its distinctive appearance. As you explore the park, you may see large herds of elephants often covered in the park’s red dust, as well as lions, cheetahs, giraffes, zebras, and numerous antelope species. The park is also home to the scenic Galana River, which supports a wide range of wildlife and birdlife along its banks. We had an unforgettable safari experience in Kenya, visiting Amboseli, Tsavo East and Tsavo West. Our driver, Cina, is truly the absolute number one! With his 21 years of experience, you can immediately see that he knows every single corner of these parks. He took us to incredible places and gave us the chance to see lions early in the morning – twice we were the very first car in the park to spot them, before anyone else arrived. The lodges were very nice – not top luxury, but still comfortable and charming. The agency handled things fairly well overall, although we were asked to make part of the payment in cash: an initial deposit with bank transfer/credit card, and then quite a big amount we had to withdraw in cash for the balance. Apart from this, everything went smoothly. This safari was a fantastic, once-in-a-lifetime experience, and I especially want to thank Cina, our driver – without him, it wouldn’t have been the same. Truly the best!
