Day 1
Arrive in Lilongwe and transfer to Dzalanyama Forest Lodge for a 3-day immersive birdwatching experience. Nestled in the miombo woodlands, Dzalanyama is a birding hotspot, home to species such as the Boulder Chat, Miombo Pied Barbet, and Whyte’s Barbet. Enjoy guided hikes and forest walks led by a professional birder who will help you spot and identify a wide range of forest and woodland birds. The serene setting also offers beautiful landscapes, butterflies, and cool forest air. In the evenings, relax at the lodge with freshly prepared meals and fireside chats about the day’s sightings. Day 2
Enjoy a full day of birding in the rich miombo woodlands of Dzalanyama Forest. Begin early with a dawn walk, when bird activity is at its peak. With a professional birder as your guide, track endemic and sought-after species such as the Miombo Double-collared Sunbird, Green-capped Eremomela, and Stierling’s Wren-Warbler. After a picnic lunch in the forest, continue birding into the afternoon, exploring trails and streamside habitats. End the day with sunset bird calls and a checklist review by the fire. Day 3
On your last day in Dzalanyama, enjoy a relaxed morning walk for any missed sightings and to soak in the forest's tranquil beauty. Depart mid-morning and begin the scenic drive back to Lilongwe, reflecting on a rewarding birding experience in one of Malawi’s prime birdwatching destinations. Day 4
After breakfast, depart Dzalanyama and journey to the lakeside town of Senga Bay. Arrive and check in at the charming Casa Constantini, a peaceful retreat on the shores of Lake Malawi. In the evening, embark on a relaxing sundowner boat ride across the lake—watch the sun dip below the horizon while spotting water birds like herons, fish eagles, and kingfishers. Day 5
After a restful morning by the lake and some final birdwatching, depart Casa Constantini and travel back to Lilongwe. I had a 12-Day safari & cultural journey in Malawi and South Luangwa (Zambia) with remarkable experience & memories. I visited three national parks: MAJETE, LIWONDE, and LUANGWA. My itinerary started from Blantyre via Lilongwe to South Luangwa before getting back to Lilongwe for my inbound flight. The full-board quote was indeed designed and tailored according to my interest. The program contained detailed information one may need. All transports, incl. airport transfers, were taken care using a private car with Chikondi as a skilled driver. She always showed up according to the plan. Chikondi was informative and flexible to provide answer to my numerous questions & curiousness about the society, culture, nature, etc. during many hours of our road transport. All the accommodations (Thawale Lodge, Huntingdon House, Zomba Forest Lodge, Latitude Hotel, Flatdogs Camp, and Lilongwe Quest lodges and safaris) were of great standards with professional services. Except Kutchire Lodge in Liwonde National Park which is to consider as a “very-low-budget” lodge. Nearly everything was in poor condition with low value. But all the staffs were friendly and tried their best. However, that didn’t overshadow my overall experience through the entire journey in Malawi & Zambia.
