Day 1
Depart early in the morning for the world-renowned Masai Mara National Reserve, a remarkable wilderness where wildlife continues to thrive in vast, natural numbers across open plains and rolling landscapes. As the northern extension of the greater Serengeti ecosystem, the Mara is famous for hosting the dramatic annual migration, where thousands of wildebeest and zebras move across the savannah in search of fresh grazing, closely followed by predators such as lions, cheetahs, and hyenas. The journey itself offers scenic views and a glimpse into Kenya’s rich countryside. You will arrive at your lodge or camp in time for lunch and a short rest before heading out on an afternoon game drive. This first safari experience in the Mara introduces you to its incredible biodiversity, with excellent chances of spotting a wide variety of wildlife as the day unfolds. Day 2
After breakfast, you will set out for a full-day game drive with a packed lunch, allowing you to explore the reserve from morning to late afternoon without interruption. The park is famous for its striking black-maned lions, often seen resting under acacia trees or surveying the plains. Wildlife is abundant, and sightings of the Big Five are possible even within a single morning drive. Cheetahs here are notably relaxed around vehicles, sometimes seeking shade beneath them or using the elevated position to scan for prey. The reserve is also a paradise for bird lovers, with nearly 500 recorded species. These include numerous eagles, hawks, and falcons, alongside several types of vultures, storks, and bustards. Among them is the impressive kori bustard, known as the heaviest flying bird. Colorful sunbirds add even more vibrancy to this rich and diverse ecosystem. Day 3
After breakfast, you will depart for Lake Nakuru National Park, travelling south across the equator into the Great Rift Valley. This renowned park surrounds the shimmering alkaline waters of Lake Nakuru, celebrated worldwide for its spectacular flamingo populations. The lake often hosts vast flocks that gather along the shoreline, creating a breathtaking ribbon of pink that stretches for miles. Beyond its birdlife, the park is an important rhino sanctuary, protecting both black and white rhinos within its secure boundaries. Other wildlife such as giraffes, buffaloes, and antelopes can also be spotted across the savannah and woodlands. You will arrive in time for lunch at your lodge or camp, followed by an afternoon game drive where you can explore the park’s diverse habitats and enjoy close encounters with its remarkable wildlife. Day 4
An early morning departure takes you to Aberdare National Park, with a scenic drive through Kenya’s Central Highlands. Along the way, you will enjoy breathtaking views of rolling tea fields and lush coffee plantations that define this fertile region. A stop is made at Karatina Market, one of the largest open-air markets in East Africa, where you can experience vibrant local trade and culture. You then continue your journey into the misty forests of Aberdare National Park, a haven of rich biodiversity. The park is home to a wide variety of wildlife, including elephants, black rhinos, leopards, hyenas, buffaloes, warthogs, bushbucks, and different species of monkeys such as colobus and baboons. Rare and elusive animals like the bongo, giant forest hog, serval cat, African wild cat, civet, and blue duiker also inhabit these dense forests. In the evening, you will enjoy dinner and an overnight stay at a lodge or campsite surrounded by nature. Day 5
An early morning departure takes you north towards the Samburu Game Reserve, passing through changing landscapes as you move into Kenya’s arid northern region. The journey offers scenic views and a peaceful atmosphere before arriving at this unique wildlife destination. A picnic lunch will be enjoyed along the way or upon arrival, giving you time to relax and take in the surroundings. In the afternoon or evening, you will proceed on a game drive across the reserve’s rugged terrain and semi-arid savannah. Samburu is known for its striking beauty and distinctive wildlife species that are rarely found in other parts of Kenya. It is home to large herds of elephants as well as elegant reticulated giraffes, Grevy’s zebras, and other animals adapted to the dry environment. The reserve also offers opportunities to spot predators and a variety of bird species. This experience provides an unforgettable introduction to northern Kenya’s natural heritage. The reserve is home to a rich variety of wildlife, including members of the Big Five such as elephants, lions, leopards, buffaloes, and rhinos. Other notable species include the gerenuk, reticulated giraffe, Grevy’s zebra, Beisa oryx, and the endangered African wild dog, as well as the unique pancake tortoise. The full-day game drive offers continuous opportunities to observe wildlife in their natural habitats, making it a rewarding and immersive safari adventure. A Wonderful Masai Mara Safari Experience We had an amazing safari experience, made even better by our guide, Francis. His skill and knowledge allowed us to get incredibly close to wildlife, giving us unforgettable moments. In just one day, we saw an impressive variety of animals including lions, cheetahs, elephants, buffaloes, hippos, crocodiles, and even a leopard resting in a tree. Of course, we also spotted giraffes, zebras, gazelles, and hyenas. Every moment of the trip was exciting and memorable. Francis was not only highly experienced but also very friendly, making the entire journey enjoyable and comfortable. We truly had a fantastic time and would gladly go on another safari with this team again. A big thank you to Lensai Safaris for such a wonderful experience!
