Day 1
Fly to Lalibela and Visit the Rock Hewn Churches of Lalibela
Fly to Lalibela and take the airport transfer to the town and visit the rock-hewn churches. After you check in at your hotel, you will drive to sites where you'll find a concentration of some of Ethiopia's most famous rock-hewn churches, mostly referred to by many as "the living wonders of the world." These churches have been here for at least 900 years and include an active Christian shrine, the spiritual center of the country's religious life. Then, you will visit Northwestern Clusters of churches this group contains, Bet Medhane Alem, Bet Maryam, Bet Meskel, Bet Danagel, Bet Mikael, and Golgotha. After lunch, you'll continue to visit the Southeastern Cluster of Lalibela churches —Bet Gabriel-Rafael, Bet Merkorios, Bet Amanual, and Bet Abba Libanos. Finally, you'll visit the most famous of all the churches —Bet Giyorgis, a huge monolithic in the shape of a cross, constructed in honor of St. George, the patron saint of Ethiopia. Day 2
Drive Lalibela to Semera
The Danakil Depression is one of Earth’s most unusual environments. After having breakfast, you will keep driving from Lalibela to Semera for almost 8 hours. On the way, you will enjoy spectacular scenery. Your overnight stay will be at Kuriftu Resort Semera. Day 3
Semera- Erta Ale
You'll drive from Semera to the volcano. It takes about 4 hours. You will visit Earta Ale, one of the most active volcanoes, and camp outside a little far from the volcano. The trekking to the volcano is about 30 minutes so you have to bring trekking shoes, a tour light, and a mask. Your overnight stay will be camping in the open air. Day 4
Visit Dallol
Early morning, you will clump to see the volcano for the sunrise is very beautiful. You will have breakfast at the base camp and continue driving to Hamedella. It takes 4 hours and afterward, you will visit Dallol. It is very beautiful. You will visit the Salt Lake, Salt mountain, enjoy swimming in the pool, Lake Asa Ale on sunset and camp in the open air. Day 5
Visit Lake Afdera - Drive Back to Semera
Early in the morning, you will enjoy sunrise and continue driving to one of the biggest salt lake called Lake Afdera. You will swim there. After lunch, you will continue driving to Semera to have an adequate rest. Your overnight stay will be at Kuriftu Resort Semera. Dan is a great guide, friendly, knowledgeable, helpful and professional. He organised a 10 day tour of Ethiopia for us. Arranging internal flights, hotels, driver's and other guides for us and he didn't want any money in advance, we just paid him cash on arrival which we thought was very trusting as we could have changed our mind leaving him out of pocket.
