The activity is basically hiking, trekking and nature walk taking you through the 7 days 6nights through the central circuit trail to the mountains of the moon. With a range of 120 km comprising of various mountains like Mount Stanley 5109m, Baker 4843m, mount speke 4890m, Luigi savoia 4627m, Gessi 4715m and mount Emin 4798m which are separated by deep gorges. Margherita is the peak for you to summit during your hiking.

Day 1
Mihunga gate1615m to Nyabitaba 2651m
The Days Rwenzori hiking via the central circuit trail starts at the Rwenzori mountains national park Mihunga gate. Your Bujuku Eco Tours driver guide will drive you to mihunga for the trek beriefing and organising your equipment. The trail begins passing through farmland to the park boundary beyond which it follows a thick forest along the Mubuku river. Cross the Mahoma river tributary before starting a long steep climb up onto a massive ridge to reach Nyabitaba hut. During this part of the trip you may hear chimpanzee and see black and white colobus, blue monkey and brilliantly coloured Rwenzori turaco. The hike takes about 6-7 hours with elevation of 1036m. Nyabitaba 2651m to John Matte camp 3505m
From Nyabitaba follow the trail that drops down through the forest to the Kurt shafer bridge, just below the confluence of the Mubuku and Bujuku ivers, passing through the bamboo forest, traverse through a long and exhausting strech of slippery moss covered rock. From the Nyamuleju rock shelter, mount stanley and speke can be seen before passing into the zone of the giant heather, lobelia and groundsel. Finally reach John Matte hut after passing through the tiring bog. Here, you have your dinner and overnight stay. The climb takes you about 7-8 hours with elevation of 854m. Day 3
John Matte 3505m to Bujuku camp 3962m
From John Mattebhut the trail drops down to cross the Bujuku river and enetersnlower Bigo Bog, the home of giant lobelias. Jumping from tussock to tussock, the bog if finally crossed but rarely without the feet sampling some of the freezing ooze below. The upper Bigo bog gives way to Bujuku Lake, with views of mt Baker to the south and Mt Stanley to the west. Bujuku hut, well located in the shadow of mt Baker and speke, is set in a narrow valley below Stuhlmann pass. This camp is good for aclimaizatio for clients attempting the summits of peaks of Mt Stanley and speke. Have your dinner and overnight at Bujuku hut. The climb takes 4-5hours with elevation of 457m. Day 4
Bujuku 3962m to Elena camp 4541m asl
Leaving Bujuku, the trail takes you through more bog, while climbing the steep slopes west of the lake and through the magical and forest of Groundsel Gully. Then turn to your right up to Elena hut and mount Stanley on a steep trail over large boulders while the trail on your left leads to Scott Elliot pass and down to Kitandara lakes the trial on the left leads to those who are not climbing Margherita Peak to Kitandara hut. Those climbing the peak will have their dinner and overnight stay at the coolly and icy Elena hut. Duration of hike is 5-6 hours with elevation of 579m. Day 5
Elena hut 4541m Margherita Peak 5109m asl
Very early in the morning, you attempt climbing the highest peak, margherita of the Mount Stanley. To reach the summit of the Margherita, the climb takes 4-5 hours depending on the weather conditions and the pace of climbing this mountain. This tough walk takes you over three glaciers, slippery rock, ice and very exposed areas which are open on many sides. Climbing on the glaciers, cross the Stanley plateau and proceed with the ascent. Acclimatized to fog, altitude sickness and coolly weather, scramble up to the summit of Margherita the highest peak of the Rwenzori mountains. The descend from Margherita peak back to Elena hut is about 2-3 hours. After your lunch break at Elena hut, descend to the scot-Elliot pass 4372m, where there are spectacular views of Bujuku Lake and mount Speke. After, the trail passes you through an alpine zone of sparse vegetation and rough boulders, descend past the Kitandara Lakes. Have dinner and overnight at the Kitandara camp. Kitandara camp 4430m to Guy Yeoman 3261m
From Kitandara, take on the trail that ascends steeply up the headwall, spreading out from the base of mount Baker and continuing along the south side of the mountain to fresh field pass 4282m asl. at this point you can view into the Congo to the west and mount Stanley to the north. From the pass, take on the long high alpine mossy. Thereafter start the descend through steep rocky trails and the rock shelter at Bujongolo, the base camp for the historic expedition by Duke of Abruzzi in 1906 and then an overnight at Gay Yeoman camp. Guy Yeoman 3261m to Nabitaba and finally out Mihunga gate 1615m
Below Gay Yeoman, the route descends the cliffs of Kichuchu. Beyond Kichuchu the muddy path crosses th Mubuku river twice through a bamboo forest before climbing downwards to Nyabitaba to complete the circuit. continue descending Nyabitaba camp and complete your trek by the evening to mihunga gate to end your 7days Rwenzori Margherita peak summit trip. Johnson was our guide and driver for our 12 days in Uganda. I had asked for specific activities for all our days. This was my 3rd time in Uganda. He helped plan every day, so it was full and exciting. Our days were planned to the maximum. I wanted to hike, explore the mountain trails, eat local fruits, visit my friends in Kasese and make a trip to the local hospital to visit a small child we support. Our 3 days of safari trips were wonderful. He even accommodated me when I asked if we could share our jeep with children we support. One morning on the way to Queen Elizabeth NP there was a man with his stranded motor bike standing on the side of the road. Johnson stopped and asked if he was OK. He told us it was not safe standing alone on the road near the QENP area. He offered to give the man enough gasoline to get him into town to the station. Many persons might not have stopped. I was very impressed with his willingness to help this person. He even offered to pay a bill for me because I did not have the correct amount. I cannot tell you how much I was impressed with this young man. I plan to see him for my next trip back to Uganda.

We did a trek in January 2024 in Rwenzori mountains, started from Kasanzi region through camps of Kasanzi, Bekambo, Lami, John Maata hut, Elena hut to Margherita peak, then back to John Maata hut through Irene lake hut and out of the park along the Central cirquit, Bujuku and Mubuku river with lunch in Nyabitaba hut. 7 days, 6 nights in the mountains.
