Duration
10-Day
Accra, Tanzania
This long, little-used route parallels the lower part of the Shira Route. Zara Tours leads treks up the Lemosho Route. The Lemosho Route is an unspoiled, remote, little-used, and beautiful way up to the Shira Plateau. Above the plateau, you'll approach Kilimanjaro's great Western Breach, then follow the south circuit to reach the easier Barafu Route. This is one of the few routes where an armed ranger accompanies our groups since there are still animals in the forest around the Lemosho Glades.

After breakfast around 7:00 am, you'll leave Mti Mkubwa Campsite heading towards Shira 1 Camp. All meals included Non-alcoholic drinks
Day 4
You'll wake up early with warm-hot water at your doorsteps for a mountain-style bath (skin rub) while your breakfast is being readied. A variety of walks are available on the plateau making this an excellent acclimatization day. All meals included Non-alcoholic drinks
Day 5
The moorlands soon come to an end and the rocky path leads amongst outcrops to the Lava tower (this is optional if one not taking the western breach) where there are good campsites (4600m, 5 hours). Then, you will continue to Barranco Hut (3900m, 2 hours) for an overnight stay and dinner. All meals included Non-alcoholic drinks
Day 6
Barranco Camp (3960m) to Karanga Camp (4035m), the distance is about 6 km. The morning starts with a scramble up the almost vertical Barranco Wall to an altitude of about 4200m and after approx. Day 7
Karanga Camp (4035m) to Barafu Camp (4640m), distance is about 5km. After breakfast, you will continue in a southeasterly direction to the junction before turning north to reach Barafu Camp (4600m) after about 4 hours. Here, you will take a long rest and prepare for the midnight ascent to the summit. All meals included Non-alcoholic drinks
Day 8
At around midnight, you'll head in a northwesterly direction up the southeast valley towards Stella Point on the crater rim. The 6-hour long walk to Stella Point is a mental and physical challenge with the steep face just below Stella posing the ultimate challenge. The time you spend on the summit is determined by the weather and wind conditions. The walk back to Mweka Camp from the summit can take over 7 hours. All meals included Non-alcoholic drinks
Day 9
After breakfast, from the Mweka Camp, you will continue down into the Mweka village, normally a muddy and long hour walk. In the Mweka village, you will drive to Springlands Hotel.
