Accra, Botswana
Our golden monkey trekking tour in Volcanoes National Park is among the top adventures to do in Rwanda. The activity involves a relatively easy trek through the bamboo jungles in the lower zones of the Volcanoes to find and spend an hour with the rare golden monkeys. Afterwards, you'll head to the impenetrable Bwindi which is home to more than half the population of the remaining 1080 mountain gorillas. Bwindi offers amazing birding, cultural, and mountain gorilla experiences.

Tour step
You'll be collected from the airport. Accommodation before the tour starts can be arranged for an extra cost.
Day 1
You will be picked up by our driver-guide at the Kigali Airport/ hotel and pass by the Kigali genocide memorial. You will also get a chance to visit the Presidential Museum which is the residence of two of the former Presidents of Rwanda. Here, you will have an opportunity to learn a bit about the political history of Rwanda. We will drive through the older commercial and residential areas with a major stop at the Kigali Genocide Memorial Site commemorating the 1994 Rwandan Genocide. You'll stop for lunch then drive to Kinigi for an overnight stay. If time allows, you will visit two twin Lakes Burera and Ruhondo. Their deep blue waters ringed by steep hills and tall waterfalls with the outlines of the nearby Virunga Volcanoes provide a spectacular backdrop. Your overnight stay will be at the booked hotel. Budget hotelless than 1hr drive from Volcanoes NP (Gorillas, Rwanda) Lunch & dinner (Breakfast not included) Drinking water (Other drinks not included)
Day 2
After early morning breakfast, you'll drive to the park head offices in Kinigi for a briefing that starts at 7:00 am. You'll join other Golden Monkey trekkers and meet the ranger guide for a few minutes to talk about the activity and the park. At 8:00 am, you'll transfer to the trailhead just outside the park. You'll enjoy great views of the mountain scenery as you start your trek into the park to find the golden monkeys. The golden monkeys live near the edge of the park in the bamboo forests where the ground is relatively flat and easy to trek. Find the monkeys and follow them as they feed, noticing how they skillfully pick the young bamboo leaves from the tip of the bamboo tree. They may also move out of the park into the potato fields. How they love the potatoes! After an amazing one hour with the golden monkeys, you will return to the trailhead and drive back to the lodge for lunch. Thereafter, you'll head to the border where after clearing, you will proceed to Bwindi. Budget lodge just outside Rushaga (Bwindi Impenetrable NP, Uganda) All meals included Drinking water (Other drinks not included)
Day 3
After an early morning breakfast, you'll drive to the park headquarters for a briefing on the dos and don’ts during gorilla tracking. Thereafter, you will proceed to the gorilla trail. Gorilla tracking normally lasts between 2 to 8 hours or even a day to encounter the gorillas. However, you'll be allowed to stay in the presence of these awesome apes for at least an hour. You should carry a packed lunch, which will be provided, as one cannot determine how long it may take to encounter the mountain gorillas. Later, you'll transfer to Lake Bunyonyi. The drive is through a beautiful part of the country often referred to as ‘the Switzerland of Africa’ because of its unique cool weather despite being near the Equator. This lake is said to be one of the most beautiful places in western Uganda. It is the second deepest lake in Africa approximately 900 meters deep and also one of the few places in the country where it is considered safe to swim as it is bilharzia-free. Budget resort located at Lake Bunyonyi (Uganda) All meals included Drinking water (Other drinks not included)
Day 4
After breakfast, you will take a boat ride on this lake to tour different islands. Then, you will head to another border, this time the Katuna border to cross to Rwanda. Upon reaching, you will do a Kigali city tour starting with the Kigali Genocide Memorial Centre visit. You will check different city landmarks and craft markets. Thereafter, you'll be transferred to Kigali Airport or a hotel to end the tour. Breakfast & lunch (Dinner not included) Drinking water (Other drinks not included)

5.0/5I contracted a tour to visit Gorillas from Kigali just hours before the tour had to start. Jason was so flexible & effective. The Guide, Alex was a fixer, solving all problems with VISA in Uganda, cash and so on. These guys are very Gold professionals. No doubt, they are a perfect choice

This was a great experience coming from United States. Jason was very easy to communicate with and was very fast at emailing back or on what’s app. He made the process too easy. I had a motorcycle accident two days prior and was not sure if I could go on this mountain gorilla trekking, last second I decide I was able to. He came to pick me up on time at 0300, the vehicle was nice, clean and reliable. His English is very good and easy to understand. He had the best price compared to others.

Wanted to drop you a quick note to say thanks for the epic Rwanda trip! Jason’s local knowledge and infectious enthusiasm made every day a blast. From the gorillas to the vibrant markets, you showed us the real deal. Your personal touch and fun stories really brought the trip to life. It felt like hanging out with a buddy who just happens to know everything about Rwanda. The laughs and good times were the cherry on top. Can’t wait to hit the road again with you soon. Keep up the great work! Cheers from your Chinese friend Yi and his parents!

Our tour was a very worthwhile experience, a day trip from Kigali to see the gorillas in Mgahinga National park. The gorillas themselves were amazing, and the tour operator was able to accommodate us on very short notice to make it happen. We had two drivers, Alex who was clearly very experienced and helped with the border crossing, and Benson who was a joy from his genuine enthusiasm and passion of what we were doing
