From Kigali to Akagera National Park
Begin your safari early with a 5:00 AM pickup from your Kigali hotel for a scenic drive to Akagera National Park. On arrival, set out on a thrilling morning game drive to spot elephants, zebras, giraffes, lions, and antelopes across the park’s sweeping savannah. In the afternoon, enjoy a boat safari on Lake Ihema, gliding past pods of hippos, crocodiles, and an array of birdlife, including the striking African fish eagle and the rare shoebill stork. Day 3
Full-Day Game Drives in Akagera National Park
After breakfast, enjoy a full-day game drive exploring Akagera’s beautiful landscapes. Search for the Big Five including lions, elephants, rhinos, buffaloes, and giraffes, along with zebras and many other wildlife. Admire the savannah, hills, and lakes while your guide shares insights about the animals and ecosystem. In the evening, return to your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay, reflecting on an amazing day in the wild. Drive from Akagera to Nyungwe Forest via Cultural Stops
After breakfast, depart Akagera National Park and drive southwest to Nyungwe Forest. En route, visit the King’s Palace Museum in Nyanza to explore Rwanda’s royal heritage and see the traditional long-horned Inyambo cattle. Continue your scenic journey through beautiful rolling hills and tea plantations, arriving at your Nyungwe lodge in the evening for dinner and relaxation. Gorilla Trekking Adventure & Conservation Experience
After an early breakfast, meet your guide at the park office for a briefing before trekking into the misty forests of Volcanoes National Park. Follow winding trails through bamboo and tropical forest to find a habituated gorilla family. Spend one unforgettable hour observing these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat, taking photos and marveling at their behaviors. After the trek, visit the Ellen DeGeneres Campus of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund to learn about gorilla conservation. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
