Arrival and Settle In
You'll arrive in Mauritius and check into L’Auberge de St. Aubin. You'll spend your first afternoon exploring the estate or relaxing by the pool. A traditional, 4-room colonial house in the authentic South, where you'll experience the way of life of 1810 in Mauritius (with running water and wifi this time!). This gem of cultural heritage is located within the Domaine de St. Aubin, with its kids' farm and playground, artisanal rum distillery, and vanilla plantation open for its guests. Guided Visit to the Domaine de St Aubin and its Artisanal Rum Distillery
Today, you'll enjoy a guided visit to the Domaine de St Aubin. You'll meet the farm animals, explore the vanilla plantation, and for the grown-ups, sample the locally made rum. This is a fun day for all the family and a hands-on, sensory start to your adventure in Mauritius. Family Beach Trek on the Wild South Coast
A slice of untouched heaven. Our guide will invite you for a beautiful coastal trek that will fascinate you with kilometers of unspoiled beaches and basaltic cliffs: the perfect balance between an adventurous and sandy escape. JB will walk you through the famous spots of Le Souffleur and Pont Naturel, passing through small forests and virgin beaches. This is a relaxed day for your family to explore at your own pace. Maybe you'll visit a nearby beach (La Cambuse is our favourite!), explore Mahébourg, or simply enjoy the guesthouse's calm atmosphere. If the kids particularly enjoyed spending time at the Domaine de St Aubin farm, why not return to see your favourite animals? Family Hike & Reforestation Activity at Ebony Forest Reserve
The team at the Ebony Forest Reserve has done a great job at re-populating 60 hectares of forest with the flora and fauna that used to prevail on our island before humankind landed on it. In this guided family excursion, a knowledgeable guide will bring you through the Flycatcher raised walkway (1.3 km), where you'll admire the endemic forest and the living creatures of Mauritius. A safari jeep ride will take your family up to the Sublime Point, a jaw-dropping viewpoint facing the whole west coast of Mauritius. Your visit includes a locally-sourced lunch and the planting of an endemic tree. You have an optional afternoon road trip to Chamarel, Grand Bassin, or Black River Gorges. Transfer to the East Coast
You'll check out from St. Aubin and head east to your eco-lodge nestled between the river and mountains. You'll settle into your spacious tent and enjoy the pool, kayaks, and nature trails. Glamping experience between the mountain and the river, in the most eco-conscious and original way. Expect dry and cozy nights thanks to the well-equipped and elevated tents, and enjoy an array of ecotourism activities in this privileged location. Every tent has a private bathroom. Water Adventures at Ile aux Cerfs or Grand South-East River
You'll take the early boat shuttle to Ile aux Cerfs, known for its beaches and shallow lagoons, or grab a kayak for a self-guided paddle through mangroves, spotting monkeys and fruit bats, to the nearby Grand South-East River waterfall. Both are great family-friendly options for everyone to get active in and on the water. This is a free day to relax, explore nearby villages, beaches, or take on one of Otentic’s outdoor activities like biking, volleyball, pétanque, or paddleboarding. Sea-Kayaking through Mangroves to Amber Island
You'll paddle your double-kayaks across the lagoon up to Amber Island, where you'll navigate through canopies of mangroves and enjoy a snorkeling session in its natural aquarium. You'll land on the island to explore its ruins and surroundings, and enjoy a local energy snack with your local guides. This afternoon is free for you to spend how you like. Basketwork Immersion with Mauritian Artisans
Fabiola, our ever-smiling host, decided to revive the dying craft of vacoas braiding several years ago. Today, she will teach you how to braid dried leaves of “vacoas”, a palm-like tree. You'll participate in the whole process: slicing of the leaves, weaving, and finishing to create your unique vacoa work, a small box, or a one-of-a-kind photo frame! You'll have a free afternoon, which you could spend having a stroll around Mahébourg, the historic old port of Mauritius.
