Day 1
Start your day with a drive from Bujumbura to Karera Waterfalls, located in the Gitega Province. The drive takes around 3-4 hours. Scenic Drive: Enjoy the rolling hills, farmlands, and rural villages along the way. Afternoon: Arrival and First Waterfall Visit Arrive at Karera Waterfalls and check into your nearby accommodation. Explore the Waterfalls: Take your first walk around the waterfalls. Karera has multiple cascades spread across different levels, surrounded by lush green vegetation. Evening: Relax and Unwind Evening Rest: Enjoy dinner and relax at your lodge or campsite, taking in the serene atmosphere. Day 2
Morning: Hiking Around Karera Waterfalls Morning Hike: After breakfast, set off to fully explore Karera Waterfalls. You’ll visit the main waterfall as well as the smaller cascades nearby. Nature Walk: Take in the beautiful scenery, perfect for photography and birdwatching. Afternoon: Visit Nyakazu Gorge (German Falls) Nyakazu Gorge: A short drive from Karera, the Nyakazu Gorge offers breathtaking views and a rich history. The area was once a strategic point during World War I, known as the German Falls. Evening: Cultural Experience Village Visit: Spend time in a local village, meeting the community and learning about their daily life, farming, and crafts. Cultural Evening: Enjoy traditional dance performances or storytelling, deepening your connection to Burundian culture. Mid-range hotel located in Gitega (City) All meals included Drinking water (Other drinks not included)
Day 3
Morning: Explore Gitega Gitega City Tour: Visit Gitega, Burundi’s cultural capital. Stop at the National Museum to learn about the country’s history, art, and traditions. Royal Drummers: If available, watch a performance by the Burundi Royal Drummers, a UNESCO-recognized cultural heritage( optional at fee). Afternoon: Return to Bujumbura Lunch in Gitega: Enjoy a traditional Burundian meal before starting your return journey. Drive Back: Head back to Bujumbura, arriving in the late afternoon or evening. Evening: Departure or Relaxation in Bujumbura Leisure Time: If time permits, relax by Lake Tanganyika or explore local markets in Bujumbura.
