After breakfast, explore Abijatta-Shalla National Park, home to Lake Abijatta and Lake Shalla. Take a Rift Valley game drive to spot flamingos, ostriches, gazelles, and warthogs across volcanic plains. Witness geothermal vents and hot springs shaped by the Rift’s tectonic activity. Continue to Hawassa, a lakeside city on Lake Hawassa. Enjoy lakeshore walks, photography, and visit the bustling fish market, experiencing local culture. Overnight: Lewi Resort Hawassa. Drive from Hawassa to Wondo Genet, along the eastern Rift escarpment. Hike through lush forests rich in endemic birds and medicinal plants known for skin and inner health. Relax in natural geothermal hot springs, celebrated for rejuvenation and wellness. Continue to Ziway Castel Winery near Lake Ziway for a guided vineyard tour and wine tasting of wines grown in the volcanic Rift Valley soils. Abiy picked us up in the hotel in Lalibela and showed and explained us some of the most impressive Rock Hewn Churches. His knowledge of history was great. As other highlights I want to point out Axum, the capital of the ancient empire of the Queen of Saba and of course the National Museum in Addis Abeba showing the story of mankind starting with Lucy!
