Windhoek to Walvis Bay

Day 1

Windhoek to Walvis Bay

Your 4-day endemic birding tour will start this morning at your hotel or guesthouse. You'll meet up and pack your bags into the comfortable, air-conditioned vehicle and set off. You'll get to know each other during the drive, making sure of everyone’s target birds for the trip. Your first stop will be at Daan Viljoen Game Reserve, a reserve on the western side of Windhoek that provides excellent dry-country birding. From here, you'll make your way down the escarpment and across the spectacular plains of the Namib Desert. You'll arrive in Walvis Bay in the late afternoon. After settling into your perfectly situated accommodation for the evening, you'll get together for some afternoon birdwatching. You'll spend the late afternoon at the famous Walvis Bay lagoon, which hosts several wonderful bird species. You'll return to your lodge to freshen up. Then, you'll have dinner at one of the many good-quality establishments in town. You'll then return to your lodge for a good night’s rest. Swakopmund and Damaraland

Day 2

Swakopmund and Damaraland

After an early breakfast this morning at your lodge, you will focus on finding Dune Lark, Namibia’s only true endemic and a great bird to have on any serious birder’s list. From here, you'll make your way north to Damaraland, driving past one of Namibia's most recognizable landmarks in the distance, the Spitzkoppe. The plains of Damaraland are home to many special bird species. This region is also home to an assortment of scientifically important desert-adapted wildlife such as African elephants, black rhinoceros, and lions, which somehow survive and thrive in this near-barren landscape. If you're lucky, you might see some of these special animals. You'll arrive at your lodge situated on the Huab River by late afternoon. It is close to the Brandberg, Namibia’s highest mountain. Your accommodation for tonight is a beautiful lodge, with stunning views. You'll check in and have some time in our rooms. You'll then get together to update our lists and enjoy a fantastic dinner. Erongo Mountains

Day 3

Erongo Mountains

After coffee and an early breakfast, you will use the morning to explore the Huab River and surrounding Mopane woodland, home to several of the Namibian near endemics and other important species. You'll then have lunch and continue southeast to the incredible rocky topography of the Erongo area. The landscape is dominated by rugged granite outcrops standing tall over the surrounding arid plains. It is the best area in the country to search for the very secretive Hartlaub’s Spurfowl, and although probably better to search for this special species tomorrow morning. You'll have a quick walk among the boulders to try your luck. Your lodge is perfectly situated amongst the rocks and staying here is the perfect ending to an amazing birding tour. You'll have dinner, update your lists, and perhaps sit on the deck and enjoy the incredible views. After dinner, you'll retire to your tents and enjoy a good night’s sleep; tomorrow morning we have some big targets! Erongo Mountains and Departure

Day 4

Erongo Mountains and Departure

You'll start the day with an early walk around the lodge. The granite hills surrounding the lodge are famous for some very special birds. You'll return to the dining area for a late breakfast, and at this time the massive numbers of Rosy-faced Lovebirds should be busy with their morning foraging. It is special sipping your coffee with hundreds of these colorful (and luckily wild) lovebirds around you! After your exciting morning of birding, you'll pack up your bags, check out, and drive back to Windhoek. It is a drive of about 2 and a half hours to the southeast back to the capital. Once in the city, we will either take you to the Hosea Kutako International Airport, or back to your hotel or guesthouse if you are staying over, or we could swing by one of the other birding hotspots around town if you are only flying onward later in the evening. Mind blowing experience

Nature Travel Namibia exceeded our expectations in every way. Right from the beginning, communications were excellent regarding itinerary planning and realised very quickly we were in the hands of true travel professionals. The consultant prepared a fantastic itinerary at short notice to suit our budget and we had a brilliant and very memorable birding trip around Namibia for 16 days. We travelled with a clued up bird guide who drove us very safely the whole 4,475km journey. The guide was extremely hard working, diligent and patient with us with a good sense of humour. All the lodges and camps selected ranged from nice to beyond beautiful. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend Nature Travel Namibia and we will be back to do it again one day.

A comfortable and well-organized Namibia tour and Safari

We organized the tour of Namibia, the safari, next stops at Victoria Falls and Chobe through e-mail exchanges. Mrs Petra was attentive to our requests and able to adapt her proposal to our preferences. She understood what we wanted and helped us to turn a dream into reality. It was amazing! The guide, Marcel, she is an excellent driver. She knows the areas very well and we didn’t miss any opportunity to see animals and experience fun adventure. she is positive, communicative and respectful of customer’s space. The transfers and accommodations were well organized. We can say it was unforgettable holiday because of landscapes, animals, contact with nature, confort and good vibes!

Beyond Expectations: A Journey of a lifetime with Joram, the best guide ever ❤️

From the moment our adventure began, Nature Travel Namibia delivered an experience that was nothing short of exceptional. Every detail—from the seamless logistics to the thoughtfully curated itinerary, which included all our special requests—reflected their commitment to excellence and genuine passion for travel. Communication with Pepi was very smooth throughout. Joram, the BEST GUIDE EVER, was wonderful from the moment he picked us up at the airport and remained exceptional throughout the entire trip. He was not only highly knowledgeable but also warm, thoughtful, engaging, and incredibly attentive to the needs of our family. His local insights added depth to every stop, turning each moment into a story worth remembering. The accommodations, meals, and activities were all top-notch, striking the perfect balance between comfort and authenticity. The app that allowed us to follow the itinerary—from Windhoek through Sossusvlei, Swakopmund, Twyfelfontein, and finally the breathtaking Etosha—was very handy. We especially loved the Tug Restaurant in Swakopmund, and each lodge had its own unique personal touch. The state-run ones within Etosha were more crowded, but still enjoyable. Namibia is such a wonderful country—it truly felt like we were part of a David Attenborough documentary. What truly set this experience apart was the personal touch, thanks to Joram, who took such amazing care of us that saying goodbye was genuinely emotional. I wholeheartedly recommend this operator to anyone seeking an unforgettable travel experience. Thank you for making this trip extraordinary!

Nature Travel Namibia organized a fantastic 14 days tour in Namibia for the 2 of us.

Nature Travel Namibia organized a fantastic 14 days tour in Namibia for the 2 of us. Everything was professionally done and the selection of lodges was superb. Nadine managed to get a small celebration form my wife's birthday as well. Our guide, Stewart Matsoto made the experience even better with his good knowledge of the country and the nature. I strongly suggest to organize your next tour or safari with Nature Travel Namibia.
