Upon landing at Addis Ababa Bole International Airport, we will be waiting to give you a warm welcome to the beautiful country before heading to the beautiful Addis Ababa hotel for your first night. Addis Ababa - Rock-Hewn Churches, Lalibela You'll start the day off right with a hearty breakfast before we take you back to the airport to catch your flight to Lalibela. You will also take advantage of and visit several sacred churches like Biete Medhane Alem, Biete Maryam, and Biete Meskel. Day 3
Lalibela - Yemrehana Krestos - Rock-Hewn Churches, Lalibela
You'll start with the most important meal of the day before we set off toward Yemrehana Krestos. Here, you'll visit Biete Gabriel-Rufael, Biete Merkorios, Biete Amanual, Biete Abba Libanos. Then, saving the best for last, you'll come to the most well-known of all the churches, Biete Giyorgis. An enormous monolith shaped like a cross, this temple was built in honor of the country's patron saint, St. George. Lalibela - Asheton Merry Monastery
Lalibela - Asheton St. Maryam Monastery - Lalibela After breakfast, you will hit the ground running on a 2-hour hike to arrive at the Asheton St. Maryam Monastery. You will continue the hike for another 1.5 hours, at Hudad Lalibela Eco-Lodge for a breathtaking 360º panoramic view. Drive to Bahir Dar
On this journey, you will have the opportunity to see the beautiful landscapes of Ethiopia. You will be driving from Lalibela - Bahir Dar. Right after breakfast, you'll hop in a car, leaving Lalibela behind in exchange for Bahir Dar. Your journey will take 6-7 hours. Bahir Dar - Lake Tana
Welcome to Bahir Dar! You'll finish off breakfast and enjoy a boat ride through Lake Tana, bringing you to Ura Kidane Mihret Monastery. With some luck, you may even see hippos in Lake Tana! Then, after some free time for lunch, you'll visit the Blue Nile Falls. After returning to Bahir Dar for a visit to the local market, you can purchase artisanal goods like jewelry and embroidered fabrics. Drive to Gondar
After a 3-hour car ride, you'll arrive at Gondar. The ruins also encompass other notable structures like the Library of Emperor Yohannes I, the majestic Emperor Bakaffa Salon, and the King's Wife's Palace. Moreover, at this iconic site, you'll also see the Kuskuam Palace, Empress Mentewab's Palace, and Quskuam Mariam Church, built in honor of the Virgin Mary. You'll also see the elaborate Debre Birhan Selassie Church murals, considered some of the most important in Ethiopia. You'll understand why as you listen to the legends tied to the sacred temple. You'll arrive at Debark, a small city on the border of Simien National Park. Following a short pitstop, you'll go south within the park to Sankaber, located 3,100 meters (10,170 feet) above sea level. Day 9: Simien National Park- Gondar - Addis Ababa On your last day, you will have breakfast and make your way to Gondar Airport to catch a flight back to Addis Ababa. Dan is a great guide, friendly, knowledgeable, helpful and professional. He organised a 10 day tour of Ethiopia for us. Arranging internal flights, hotels, driver's and other guides for us and he didn't want any money in advance, we just paid him cash on arrival which we thought was very trusting as we could have changed our mind leaving him out of pocket. We really enjoyed our tour he arranged and thought it was great value for money. Definitely recommend him.
