Afterwards, embark on the scenic drive north (~2–3 hours) to Ruhengeri (Musanze), passing rolling hills, terraced farmland, and vibrant Rwandan villages. Day 2
Today is a highlight of your safari. After breakfast, head into Volcanoes National Park for a morning visit to the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund’s Karisoke Research Center. Walk the trails once trodden by Dian Fossey herself, explore her research station, and learn about her tireless efforts to protect mountain gorillas. See memorials dedicated to her life and legacy, and gain a deep appreciation for the conservation work that continues to protect these magnificent animals today. In the afternoon, immerse yourself in the forest on a golden monkey trek, tracking these lively, colorful primates through bamboo groves and mossy volcanic slopes. Watch as they leap and play high in the trees, offering rare photographic opportunities and unforgettable encounters. Return to your lodge in the late afternoon to relax and enjoy dinner with spectacular views of the surrounding volcanoes, reflecting on the unique primate experiences of the day. Day 3
After an early breakfast, cross the border into Uganda and journey toward the magical Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, home to nearly half of the world’s mountain gorillas. The drive showcases East Africa’s lush landscapes: rolling hills, farmland, and small villages bustling with life. Upon arrival, check your Lodge, comfortable surrounded by the forest. In the afternoon, enjoy a guided forest walk, exploring the rich biodiversity of Bwindi’s lush vegetation while spotting monkeys, colorful birds, and unique plants. Alternatively, visit a Batwa community, the indigenous forest-dwelling pygmies, and gain an intimate understanding of their traditions, music, and way of life intimately connected to the forest. This cultural encounter adds depth to your safari experience, highlighting the human side of Uganda’s wilderness. Overnight in Bwindi. Day 4
Rise early for the ultimate adventure: gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. Trek through dense forest, listening to the sounds of the jungle—the calls of birds, rustling leaves, and distant gorilla hoots—as your expert ranger leads the way. After a rewarding trek, you’ll come face-to-face with a gorilla family, spending up to one hour observing their playful, gentle interactions. Every glance, gesture, and grunt creates memories that will last a lifetime. After this extraordinary encounter, begin your scenic journey back to Kigali or Entebbe. Along the way, stop to capture photographs of the rolling hills, dramatic valleys, and vibrant villages. Arrive at your destination in time for your onward flight, concluding your 4-day adventure with memories of Rwanda’s volcanoes, Dian Fossey’s legacy, golden monkeys, and Uganda’s majestic gorillas.
