Day 1
Into the Heart of the Simien Mountains
You'll begin your adventure with an early morning departure from Gondar and drive approximately 2.5 hours on a paved road to Debark, where you register at the Simien Mountains National Park office. After meeting our park scouts and crew, you'll drive 22 km into the park to reach Simien Lodge, the starting point of our trek. From here, you'll walk for 3–4 hours to Sankaber Camp, taking in sweeping views of the dramatic escarpments and valleys. Expect to see gelada baboons, endemic plants, and vibrant flowers along the route. Our guide will share insights about the park's geology, flora, and fauna. This easy warm-up trek introduces you to the natural beauty of the Simien Mountains. You can be picked up from your hotel in Gondar or make your own way to the designated meeting point. Day 2
Jinbar Waterfall, Wildlife & Village Life
Today’s trek from Sankaber to Geech Camp (3,600m) takes around 5–6 hours and covers spectacular landscapes. You'll pass the 500m-high Jinbar Waterfall and stop for lunch by the Jinbar River. The trail winds through afro-alpine meadows and giant heather forests. Wildlife sightings may include klipspringers, bushbucks, and the ever-present gelada baboons. You'll also pass through Geech village, where you’ll be welcomed into a traditional tukul hut for a coffee ceremony with a local family. This offers a rare glimpse into rural highland life. Day 3
Panoramic Peaks Imet Gogo & Enatye Ridge
This is one of the most rewarding trekking days in the Simien Mountains. From Geech Camp, you'll hike to Imet Gogo (3,926m), the most iconic viewpoint in the range, offering jaw-dropping 360-degree vistas of canyons and jagged cliffs. From there, you'll descend into the valley of Meflekiaw before climbing again to Enatye (4,070m)—the highest point of today's trek. The landscapes are nothing short of epic. You’ll pass through habitats filled with lobelias and wildflowers and may spot geladas, birds of prey, and—if lucky—walia ibex along the way. You'll end your journey at Chenek Camp (3,620m), nestled in a scenic clearing, where geladas often graze nearby. It’s a long but unforgettable day, filled with dramatic views and wildlife encounters. Day 4
Ras Bwahit Summit Trek & Wildlife Encounters
Today’s hike leads you to Ras Bwahit (4,430m), the second-highest peak in the Simien Mountains and one of the most impressive viewpoints in Ethiopia. The round-trip trek takes 5–6 hours. Along the way, you may encounter endemic wildlife such as the Walia ibex grazing on cliffs or possibly the elusive Ethiopian wolf. The trail is lined with alpine vegetation, and the expansive views from the summit make the climb well worth the effort. After spending time at the peak for photos and rest, you'll return to Chenek Camp for a relaxing final night in the mountains. Day 5
Final Views & Return to Gondar
On your final morning, you'll take a short walk around Chenek Camp to enjoy the last scenic views and maybe spot more geladas or walia ibex in the surrounding hills. After breakfast, you'll pack up and drive back toward Debark to officially exit the park. From Debark, you'll continue the 2.5-hour journey to Gondar, where the tour ends in the afternoon. Drop-off at your hotel in Gondar can be arranged upon request. After five unforgettable days in Ethiopia’s most majestic mountains, you’ll return with memories of wild landscapes, friendly locals, and close-up encounters with some of Africa’s rarest wildlife. We were paired with two guides, Melaku and "Geech". Both of whom were amazing. Very friendly and knowledgeable about the areas we visited and the local flora and fauna. "Geech" is the best driver in the business and Melaku took us to his childhood home to have a coffee ceremony with his mom and his sister. Unforgettable additions to the trip. If Ethiopia is not on your list it should be. Timket is absolutely a must. But there is too much to see in one trip. Will definitely be going back for the Omo Valley.

An amazing spiritual journey deep in the heart of Ethiopia. Lalibela was an absolute amazing trip so rich with culture and history thanks to our fabulous tour guide Muluye.
