Day 1
Your journey begins early in the morning with a scenic drive from Kigali towards Rwanda’s western region. The drive takes approximately 4–5 hours and passes through the country’s famous rolling hills, rural villages, and beautiful terraced landscapes. Along the way, you will enjoy spectacular views of the countryside and experience the charm of Rwanda’s rural life. Upon arrival in Rubavu, spend time relaxing along the shores of Lake Kivu and enjoy a boat ride on Lake Kivu, offering panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and nearby islands while learning about the lake’s unique ecosystem. After the boat excursion, enjoy a lakeside lunch at a local restaurant, where you can relax and taste fresh Rwandan or international dishes while overlooking the sparkling waters of the lake. In the afternoon, take a leisurely short walk, explore the vibrant lakeside town, or simply unwind while enjoying the tranquil scenery before beginning the scenic drive back to Kigali. 5.0/5My experience with Unique Rwanda Vacations Experts was very positive. I requested a tailored two-day itinerary to see both the gorillas and the golden monkeys, and Lambert responded to me with a quote within a day. The driver-guide Eric was helpful, knowledgeable and professional. He was always on time and made sure I was having a good experience. I was really happy with his service.

Unique Rwanda was quick to respond to emails and very organized. Other than filling out a form and paying, they did all the leg work to obtain our visas to the DRC. Our guide also assisted in all parts of the border crossing which became more difficult because we needed a new EATV upon re-entering Rwanda from the DRC. This meant getting money out of the ATM in the DRC. Everything was very well planned and we made some interesting stop along our route from Kigali to Kahuzi-Biega National Forest. The gorilla trek itself was great because there were so few people that it made it easy to find a good spot to view them. Many people are hesitant to travel to the Congo, but Unique Rwanda made the logistics easy and made us feel safe.

We had a memorable experience getting up close to a family of gorillas. We also found the journey from Kigali and into the Kahuzi-Biega National Park to be very interesting, passing through the beautiful Rwandan countryside. Our guide was a very safe and courteous driver. Everything went very smoothly. Prior to the tour we had excellent communication with the company, who responded promptly to our questions. We were very impressed with the rangers and trackers in the park, who were very skilled interacting with the gorillas and ensuring we had such an incredible experience. We would highly recommend travellers consider visiting the Kahuzi-Biega Park. We felt very safe and the park depends on tourists to fund the protection of the gorillas and ensure their numbers can increase. Additionally it is a much more economical way to see them as the permits cost far less.

Communications with the Unique Rwanda Vacations Experience were conducted by email and WhatsApp. All my questions were answered quickly and in full. Support during the trip was also excellent. Our task was to visit the Kahuzi Biega and see Gorillas in 1 day without staying overnight in the DRC. The difficulty which was expected is related to the border post working hours which are 06:00 - 15:00. Lambert who was my point of contact, and he perfectly arranged the trip. The guide on the DRC side assisted me in getting Visa quickly and sort out all the issues. Arrangements at the Kahuzi Biega were also perfect with rangers waiting for us with location of Gorillas. We had enough time to watch them in very close proximity and enjoy them in wild nature. Guide controlled the time very well and we returned to Rwanda before border closed. Moreover Unique Rwanda Vacations Experience offered best value for money for this trip and assisted me in other logistic issue in Rwanda.
