Your driver will pick you up from your hotel in at 4:30am and transfer you to Volcanoes National Park in Northern Rwanda. The drive takes about two and a half hours, allowing you to arrive in time for the gorilla trekking adventure. Upon arrival at the park headquarters in Kinigi, Musanze District, you will register and receive a briefing. You’ll then be grouped and assigned a ranger and a specific gorilla family to track. The trek through the forest can take between 1 to 5 hours, depending on where the gorillas are located. Though the hike can be strenuous, the reward of encountering mountain gorillas in their natural habitat is unforgettable. Once you find them, you’ll spend up to one hour observing and taking in the moment. After the trek, return to the park headquarters to receive your trekking certificate and a packed lunch.
