Day 2
After an early morning breakfast, you will be transferred from your hotel in Kasese town to Omukorukumi which is a 1 hour drive and start your hike through the community to reach Rwenzori Mountains National Park Kasanzi camp. This will be a light day with majorly a hike through the community to the first campsite in the Rwenzori mountains of the moon along the Bukurungu wilderness camping trail. This is a camp site with several wooden shelter huts where our guides and porters will pitch a tent for you. This camp is generally warmer than any other first camp in the Rwenzori mountains despite being above 2,400 metres above seal level. All meals included Drinking water (Other drinks not included)
Day 3
After breakfast, take on the trail which bends west on the ridge overlooking the Kasuka and Isule valleys and onward to Akebitakuli for some rest while taking a breath and thereafter, hike through the montane rain forest overlooking bamboo forested valleys. Encounter plant species like the Disa stairssi, Scadoxus cyrtanthiflorus, Impetiens olobuse and spot or hear calls of black and white Colobus monkeys, The Rwenzori Turaco and other birds. The trail will lead you through the heather zone bypassing Rwigho Camp immediately after crossing River Rwigho. On this day you will see lots of giant lobelias, everlasting flowers and rock shelters. This hike will take you 5 – 6 hrs with a stopover for a hot lunch at Mitiyighaghire. Arrive at Kambeho campsite and the guides will pitch a tent for you for the overnight. All meals included Drinking water (Other drinks not included)
Day 4
You will have an early morning breakfast and leave this campsite headed for Mughuli camp which is located near the beautiful Lake Mughuli with amazing views in the valleys and ridges near Mount Gessi to the North and the portal peaks to the south west. Day 5
Early morning leave Kambeho camp after a somewhat cold night climbing along River Lhume taking the Mughuli pass the only steep bypass on the trail. After a steep climb on Mughuli bypass descend down past Lake Mughuli which is within a strong MTN network service to allow you catch up with some mobile phone calls before proceeding to Lamia camp. There are several unnamed beautiful peaks which can easily be climbed by those interested as they acclimatize for climbing the Portal peaks and Mount Gessi. Around the camp, you can easily explore the water falls which gives the real taste of the Rwenzori mountains waters. Overnight at Lamia camp. All meals included Drinking water (Other drinks not included)
Day 6
This is your last day along the Bukurungu Rwenzori mountains climbing route joining the Central circuit trail at the beginning of the lower Bigo bog before crossing River Bujuku. Descend down from Lamia camp down past the Bukurungu lakes before reaching the Bujuku River bridge on the lower Bigo walk boards. Climb gently to Bigo camp to pitch your tents for an overnight or sleep at John Maate hut for a warmer night. All meals included Drinking water (Other drinks not included)
Day 7
Today we enter the alpine zone and trek all the way up to the summit camp on the north-eastern flank of Mount Stanley preparing to summit Margherita peak 5,109m asl the next morning. We will climb from Bigo camp to the Upper Bigo bog crossing River Bujuku several times before reaching Lake Bujuku in the Bujuku valley below Mount Baker, Mount Speke and Mount Stanley. Continue the climb up to Irene Lakes camp at 4,495m asl East of the Elena camps at 4,505m asl. 5.0/5Johnson was our guide and driver for our 12 days in Uganda. I had asked for specific activities for all our days. This was my 3rd time in Uganda. He helped plan every day, so it was full and exciting. Our days were planned to the maximum. I wanted to hike, explore the mountain trails, eat local fruits, visit my friends in Kasese and make a trip to the local hospital to visit a small child we support. Our 3 days of safari trips were wonderful. He even accommodated me when I asked if we could share our jeep with children we support. One morning on the way to Queen Elizabeth NP there was a man with his stranded motor bike standing on the side of the road. Johnson stopped and asked if he was OK. He told us it was not safe standing alone on the road near the QENP area. He offered to give the man enough gasoline to get him into town to the station. Many persons might not have stopped. I was very impressed with his willingness to help this person. He even offered to pay a bill for me because I did not have the correct amount. I cannot tell you how much I was impressed with this young man. I plan to see him for my next trip back to Uganda.

Excelent team and professional guides. Friendly people. Well managed. Clear communication and correct deal. Fast, faultless and flexible organisation and arrangement. We did a trek in January 2024 in Rwenzori mountains, started from Kasanzi region through camps of Kasanzi, Bekambo, Lami, John Maata hut, Elena hut to Margherita peak, then back to John Maata hut through Irene lake hut and out of the park along the Central cirquit, Bujuku and Mubuku river with lunch in Nyabitaba hut. 7 days, 6 nights in the mountains. We had 2 guides, cooks, porters and 2 rangers. Vladi, Czechia.
