Day 1
On arrival at Lilongwe International Airport, you’ll be warmly welcomed by our team and begin your birding adventure in Malawi. After a short meet-and-greet, we’ll transfer you southwest through rural landscapes to Dzalanyama Forest Lodge (approx. 2.5 hours). Nestled in miombo woodland, the lodge offers a peaceful setting ideal for birders. On arrival, check in, settle into your chalet, and take time to relax after your journey. Enjoy the natural surroundings and keep an eye out for your first bird sightings around the lodge. In the late afternoon, we’ll gather for a trip briefing where your guide will outline the itinerary, key species to look out for, and what to expect in the days ahead. This is a great opportunity to ask questions and prepare your gear. Later, enjoy a freshly prepared dinner in the cozy lodge dining area, followed by a quiet evening under the stars. Tomorrow, the birding begins in earnest! Mid-range lodge located inside Dzalanyama FR All meals included Drinking water (Other drinks not included)
Day 2
Your first full day of birding begins early with coffee and light snacks served at 5:30 AM. By 6:00 AM, we head into the rich miombo woodlands of Dzalanyama Forest Reserve for a 4-hour birding walk. This habitat is home to several miombo specialists and regional endemics such as Miombo Pied Barbet, Sterling's Wren-Warbler, Boulder Chat, Olive-headed Weaver, and Whyte’s Barbet. With luck, we may also encounter the elusive Miombo Rock Thrush or the striking Western Miombo Sunbird. After a rewarding morning, we return to the lodge for a well-earned brunch, followed by time to relax, either birding casually around the lodge, resting, or enjoying the serene surroundings. In the late afternoon, we set out again for a shorter birding session, targeting species missed earlier and exploring new parts of the reserve. Return to the lodge by sunset for a hearty dinner, a checklist review, and stories by the fire. Day 3
Another exciting day begins with coffee at 5:30 AM, followed by a morning birding walk at 6:00 AM through the miombo woodlands. We’ll explore different trails to increase our chances of spotting more miombo specialists such as the Cabanis’s Bunting, Green-capped Eremomela, Miombo Tit, and Black-eared Seedeater. Dzalanyama’s diverse terrain offers excellent opportunities for photography and quiet observation. We return by late morning for a relaxing brunch and rest at the lodge. In the afternoon, we embark on a scenic hike to the forest waterfall, a peaceful spot deep within Dzalanyama. Along the way, keep your binoculars ready for forest-edge birds like the Southern Hyliota or the secretive Grey-olive Greenbul. After enjoying the cool spray of the falls, we bird our way back toward the lodge, aiming for a few last sightings before dusk. The day ends with a warm dinner, bird checklist review, and time to relax under the stars. Mid-range lodge located inside Dzalanyama FR All meals included Drinking water (Other drinks not included)

Along the way, we make a brief but enriching stop at Chingalire Cultural Village, where you'll experience traditional Malawian music, dance, and storytelling, offering a deeper connection to the culture and people of Malawi. After the visit, we continue through scenic landscapes to Cape Maclear, arriving in the afternoon. Upon arrival, we check in at Capricorn by Quest Lodge, a cosy, lakeside retreat perfect for relaxing after the journey. Bruce · Nicaragua
I had a 12-Day safari & cultural journey in Malawi and South Luangwa (Zambia) with remarkable experience & memories. I visited three national parks: MAJETE, LIWONDE, and LUANGWA. My itinerary started from Blantyre via Lilongwe to South Luangwa before getting back to Lilongwe for my inbound flight. The full-board quote was indeed designed and tailored according to my interest. The program contained detailed information one may need. All transports, incl. airport transfers, were taken care using a private car with Chikondi as a skilled driver. She always showed up according to the plan. Chikondi was informative and flexible to provide answer to my numerous questions & curiousness about the society, culture, nature, etc. during many hours of our road transport. All the accommodations (Thawale Lodge, Huntingdon House, Zomba Forest Lodge, Latitude Hotel, Flatdogs Camp, and Lilongwe Quest lodges and safaris) were of great standards with professional services. Except Kutchire Lodge in Liwonde National Park which is to consider as a “very-low-budget” lodge. Nearly everything was in poor condition with low value. But all the staffs were friendly and tried their best. However, that didn’t overshadow my overall experience through the entire journey in Malawi & Zambia.
Zia · Norway
We had a fantastic trip to Malawi. Chikondi was an excellent guide. She was flexible to all our last minute changes and suggested extra excursions when we had a bit of spare time. I would highly recommend Quest Lodges and Safari.
Heidi · Canada
Although we are used to travel individually and organize our trips by ourselves, we experienced very valuable help and support from Quest. They organised car, driver, and accommodation for our 14 day tour to Malawi. Very reliable, great help when we had to change our itinerary last minute due to the fuel crisis. Strongly recommended, good value for money.
