Amakhala Game Reserve is a private game reserve situated just an hour outside of Port Elizabeth. This makes it the perfect safari addition to any Garden Route itinerary. With wildlife to rival that of the more famous Kruger National Park, Amakhala Safari Lodge is the ideal place to relax as the animals come to drink at the waterhole in front of the lodge. An added benefit is that the Eastern Cape is malaria free.

Day 1
Arrive at Amakhala Safari Lodge
Make your way to Amakhala Safari Lodge to arrive by 2:00 PM, so you still have time to settle in before joining your first shared afternoon game drive. We can assist with a rental car if you are planning a more extensive journey, possibly along the Garden Route. Alternatively, we can arrange transfers from and back to Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth). *Between May - July 2026 & 2027 - Includes stay 3 nights and only pay for 2 nights special. Day 2
Amakhala Game Reserve
The morning game drive starts at sunrise. You will wake up before dawn for tea and coffee before the game drive starts. Then, you are off for 3 hours to find as many animals as possible before they all find trees to hide under in the heat of the day. When the game drive returns to the lodge, you will be served a delicious hot breakfast and have time to relax. You can sit by the pool, read a book, take a nap, and absorb the benefits of being out in the bush. After high tea, the afternoon game drive will start around 3:30 to 4:00 PM. It will last about 3 hours, with a stop somewhere for sundowners. You will return to the lodge in the dark, with a spotlight to look for nocturnal animals. After your final shared morning game drive, you will enjoy a warm breakfast and then depart the lodge for your next destination. We will happily assist with any add-on travel arrangements within Africa, such as the Garden Route, Cape Town, Victoria Falls and more.
