Nairobi-Samburu National Reserve
Depart Nairobi early, driving north through the central highlands and passing lush coffee and tea plantations en route to Samburu. Arrive in time for lunch at your lodge, set along the Ewaso Nyiro River. In the afternoon, embark on your first game drive in this rugged, semi-arid reserve known for its "Samburu Special Five"—Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, Somali ostrich, gerenuk, and Beisa oryx—along with elephants, lions, and leopards. Day 2
Samburu National Reserve
Awake to the rugged beauty of Samburu, where the Ewaso Nyiro River winds through arid hills and acacia‑dotted plains. Begin with an early morning game drive, when predators are most active and the light is perfect for spotting elephants, lions, and leopards. Samburu is renowned for its “Special Five” — Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, Somali ostrich, Beisa oryx, and the long‑necked gerenuk, species unique to this northern region. Return to the lodge for breakfast and a short rest before continuing deeper into the reserve. By mid‑day, enjoy a picnic lunch along the riverbanks, watching crocodiles bask and birdlife flourish. The afternoon reveals Samburu’s contrasting landscapes: rocky outcrops, open savannah, and lush riverine forests alive with wildlife. As the sun begins to set, embark on another game drive, capturing the reserve’s dramatic scenery bathed in golden light. Samburu National Reserve - Ol Pejeta Conservancy
After breakfast, depart for Ol Pejeta Conservancy, nestled between the foothills of Mount Kenya and the Aberdare Ranges. Arrive for lunch at the lodge before heading out on an afternoon game drive. Ol Pejeta is famed for its high rhino population, including the last two northern white rhinos, and offers the chance to spot the Big Five. Visit the Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary (extra cost) and learn about their rescue mission. Return to the lodge for dinner and a night under the stars.
