5.0 / 5 · 5 reviews Offered by Kurikayo Africa Adventures 4-Day

Overview

Our golden monkey trekking tour in Volcanoes National Park is among the top adventures to do in Rwanda. The activity involves a relatively easy trek through the bamboo jungles in the lower zones of the Volcanoes to find and spend an hour with the rare golden monkeys. Afterwards, you'll head to the impenetrable Bwindi which is home to more than half the population of the remaining 1080 mountain gorillas. Bwindi offers amazing birding, cultural, and mountain gorilla experiences.

Golden Monkey Tracking in Volcanoes National Park

Day 2

Golden Monkey Tracking in Volcanoes National Park

After early morning breakfast, you'll drive to the park head offices in Kinigi for a briefing that starts at 7:00 am. You'll join other Golden Monkey trekkers and meet the ranger guide for a few minutes to talk about the activity and the park. At 8:00 am, you'll transfer to the trailhead just outside the park. You'll enjoy great views of the mountain scenery as you start your trek into the park to find the golden monkeys. The golden monkeys live near the edge of the park in the bamboo forests where the ground is relatively flat and easy to trek. Find the monkeys and follow them as they feed, noticing how they skillfully pick the young bamboo leaves from the tip of the bamboo tree. They may also move out of the park into the potato fields. How they love the potatoes! After an amazing one hour with the golden monkeys, you will return to the trailhead and drive back to the lodge for lunch. Thereafter, you'll head to the border where after clearing, you will proceed to Bwindi. Budget lodge just outside Rushaga (Bwindi Impenetrable NP, Uganda) All meals included Drinking water (Other drinks not included)

Mountain Gorilla Tracking in Bwindi

Day 3

Mountain Gorilla Tracking in Bwindi

After an early morning breakfast, you'll drive to the park headquarters for a briefing on the dos and don’ts during gorilla tracking. Thereafter, you will proceed to the gorilla trail. Gorilla tracking normally lasts between 2 to 8 hours or even a day to encounter the gorillas. However, you'll be allowed to stay in the presence of these awesome apes for at least an hour. You should carry a packed lunch, which will be provided, as one cannot determine how long it may take to encounter the mountain gorillas. Later, you'll transfer to Lake Bunyonyi. The drive is through a beautiful part of the country often referred to as ‘the Switzerland of Africa’ because of its unique cool weather despite being near the Equator. This lake is said to be one of the most beautiful places in western Uganda. It is the second deepest lake in Africa approximately 900 meters deep and also one of the few places in the country where it is considered safe to swim as it is bilharzia-free. Very professional agency, excursion and lodge always top notch. The guide Stuart is a rare gem.

I just came back from an incredible trip to Uganda and… WOW. This country is pure magic! The landscapes look like they came straight out of a documentary, huge lakes, forests where you half expect Tarzan to show up… and most of all, animals everywhere! 🦒🦍🦁 I had one of the most beautiful moments of my life locking eyes with a mountain gorilla – I swear we almost became best friends. Between safaris, I saw elephants, lions, giraffes, hippos… it’s basically a live-action animal kingdom. And the absolute highlight: a huge thank you to our guide Stuart 🙌. Not only does he know Uganda like the back of his hand – every path, every animal, every hidden spot – but he also has a heart of gold. Always smiling, funny, attentive, and eager to share his love for his country, he turned this trip into a truly unique and meaningful experience. Honestly, if you’re looking for a trip that combines adventure, nature, and unforgettable emotions, Uganda should be at the very top of your list. It’s a country that grabs your hand and leaves you with stars in your eyes ✨.

This tour operator makes your trips a dream

I just returned from this magnificent country and I must say it was an unforgettable experience. Uganda is truly a rare gem of Africa, with breathtaking landscapes, dense tropical forests, immense lakes, and, above all, incredible wildlife in the various parks we visited. I was lucky enough to see gorillas in the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and chimpanze in kibale ,a magical and moving moment. As well as elephants, lions, giraffes, hippos, and even leopards during the safaris. The people are incredibly kind and always ready to share their culture and history. A huge thank you to our guide Stuart, who made this trip even more special with his passion, knowledge, and sense of adventure. 🙏 If you're looking for a unique, authentic, and emotionally charged destination, I highly recommend Uganda. It’s a journey that reconnects you with nature and leaves you with memories for life. 🦍🌿🦒

Fun guide

If you are looking for a fun guide who has an interest in helping you capture that perfect shot then look no further. Stewart is a wonderful guide who has a keen interest in photography and now runs his own safari business. Last August I spent a fun day with Stewart as my guide on Ugandas Lake Bunyoni.
