Day 1
You will be picked up early from your hotel or the airport in Kigali by your professional guide and begin a scenic drive to Akagera National Park, passing through Rwanda’s rolling hills and vibrant countryside. Upon arrival in the park, setoff on a game drive across the park’s diverse landscapes, where you may spot elephants, giraffes, zebras, buffaloes and a variety of antelopes, with chances of seeing lions and other predators. In the afternoon, enjoy a relaxing boat cruise on Lake Ihema, where you can view hippos, crocodiles, and abundant birdlife along the shores. After the game drive, you will proceed to your lodge for relaxation or return to Kigali, marking the end of a rewarding wildlife experience. Day 2
After an early breakfast in Akagera National Park, set out for a morning game drive through the park’s scenic savannah and woodland. As the wildlife becomes active, you may spot elephants, giraffes, zebras, buffaloes, and various antelopes, with chances of encountering lions and other predators. After the game drive, exit the park and begin your journey across the country toward Volcanoes National Park. The drive offers breathtaking views of Rwanda’s rolling hills, terraced landscapes, and vibrant local life. Arrive in the late afternoon or evening, check into your lodge, and relax as you prepare for the next day’s primate adventure in the shadow of the Virunga volcanoes. Day 3
After an early breakfast, transfer to the park headquarters in Volcanoes National Park for a briefing before setting out on your gorilla trekking adventure. Accompanied by experienced rangers, you will hike through the forest in search of a habituated family of Mountain Gorillas. The trek can vary in duration, but once found, you will spend one unforgettable hour observing their behavior in their natural habitat. After returning and enjoying lunch, visit Iby'Iwacu Cultural Village (Iby’Iwacu Cultural Centre) for an enriching cultural experience, where you will learn about traditional Rwandan life, music, dance, and local customs. Return to your lodge in the evening for relaxation and overnight. Day 4
After an early breakfast, transfer to Volcanoes National Park headquarters for a briefing before setting out on a guided trek to track the lively Golden Monkeys. Moving through the bamboo forest at the base of the Virunga volcanoes, you will encounter these playful primates as they leap between branches and forage in their natural habitat. After the trek, return to your lodge for lunch and a short rest. In the afternoon, visit the fascinating Musanze Caves, a network of ancient lava tunnels formed by volcanic activity. Explore the caves on a guided walk, learning about their geological history and cultural significance before returning to your lodge for relaxation and overnight. Day 5
After breakfast, you will have a chance to pack up for your return to Kigali. Enjoy a scenic descent past banana farms, tea plantations, and small towns in western Rwanda along winding mountain roads. Return to Kigali International Airport or Accommodation. (Optional) Tour of Kigali City, If there is time, your guide will be happy to guide you to one of Kigali’s renowned bakeries, coffee shops, or a local handicrafts market to purchase some of the beautiful artwork created in the city. Visit the world-renowned Genocide Memorial Center and have a chance to learn about the fascinating recent history of the country. Enjoy a cup of Rwandan coffee at the Memorial café and explore the outdoor rose gardens. When the time is right, your guide will return you to your accommodation or will accompany you to Kigali International Airport. My husband and I traveled on our Safari with Leticia as our Guide and driver. Our Safari was mind blowing!! SO many animals on our Safari!! We were amazed Daily!! Also Gorilla and Chimpanzee trekking was Fantastic as well !! Everything was well worth our trip over seas, and the cost was worth every penny for such sn amazing adventure!
