5-Day Cultural Tour in the Heart of Africa Burundi
Overview
This tour will start in Burundi and ends in Rwanda. We will visit the pygmy community around Kibira National Park before we continue our way to Gitega for the Gishora drum sanctuary and Gitega national museum. You will then continue your way to Kayanza to learn about the burundian kingdom and visit the royal tombs. By passing via Ngozi, you will head to Kirundo and visit the intore warriors and have boat ride on lac aux oiseaux.

Day 1
Ransfer from the airport to the hotel
Upon arrival at Bujumbura international airport, you will meet our guide who will welcome you and brief you about you stay in Burundi. After briefing, you will be transferred to your hotel in Bujumbura and if you arrive in the morning time, we will proceed with Bujumbura city tour. Day 2
Pigymy community visit and walk
After your breakfast, we will go for Busekera pygmy village situated on the edge of the Kibira forest, just 4 km from the crossroads of the Bugarama town and start experiencing the semi-nomadic pygmy people known for their great skills for hunting and dancing. They are believed to be the original inhabitants of Burundi. Over just the past 50 years, the Batwa has been evicted from the forests of Burundi. They have been displaced in mass to support the creation of national parks and the establishment of tea plantations and other farms. They make a small minority of all the people in Burundi, just one percent of the entire population. They live in straw huts, which can host an entire family. You will just learn about their lifestyles and participate in the pottery making and you will see how women sell traditional clay cooking pots to survive, and as result, pottery becomes the key symbol of modern pygmy identity. Day 3
Gishora Drums and Gitega Museum
After your breakfast, you will visit Gishora drum sanctuary and be welcomed by royal drummers. You will be astonished by their rapidity in jumping in air and how talented they are. You will just learn and imitate how to beat drums and dance. Later, we will go to visit the Gitega National museum to learn about Burundian ethnography. Day 4
Ngozi city tour and royal tombs visit
After your breakfast, we will go to explore the kingdom graves and learn about the rites associated with the kings burial and how their succession did proceed. Burundi recognized about 7 kings all of the same dynasty. Learning about this precolonial history, will give you the true image of Burundi kingdom and the republic of Burundi. Later after, we will drive a little bit to Ngozi and proceed with Ngozi city tour before we continue our way to Kirundo. End of the trip
