Day 1
Your adventure begins with an early morning departure from Addis Ababa, journeying southward through the rolling Ethiopian Highlands. The scenic 6–7 hour drive to Dinsho—the gateway to Bale Mountains National Park—offers a vivid introduction to rural Ethiopian life, as you pass fertile farmlands, traditional highland villages, and stunning countryside vistas. Upon arrival at the park headquarters in Dinsho, you'll meet your local trekking team, including an experienced guide and armed park scout. After lunch and a brief rest, set out on an easy acclimatization hike through the juniper-hagenia woodlands surrounding Dinsho. This gentle trek helps your body adjust to the altitude while immersing you in Bale’s unique biodiversity. With luck, you'll spot endemic species like the Mountain Nyala, Menelik’s bushbuck, and warthogs roaming the meadows—your first taste of the wildlife-rich world you’re about to explore more deeply in the days to come. Day 2
After a hearty breakfast and a final check of your gear, set out on your first full day of trekking into the heart of the Bale Mountains. The trail begins with a steady ascent through ancient juniper and hagenia woodlands alive with birdsong. Keep your binoculars ready—this area is a haven for endemic species such as the Abyssinian catbird and white-cheeked turaco. As the forest thins, you’ll enter the Afro-alpine moorlands, dotted with giant lobelias and sweeping heather fields. Cross the Web River, a vital lifeline for the park’s wildlife, while watching lammergeiers and tawny eagles overhead. Upon arrival at Sodota Camp (approximately 18 km), travelers are invited to take part in light camp chores such as setting up tents, helping with meal preparation, or collecting water and firewood. These shared activities foster teamwork and a deeper connection to the wilderness. Enjoy a warm dinner as the sun sets over the highlands. Day 3
Rise to the crisp mountain air and enjoy a nourishing breakfast at the Sodota campsite before setting out on one of the longest trekking days of your journey. Today’s route covers approximately 20 km over 7 to 8 hours of undulating terrain, guiding you deeper into the remote, elevated expanses of Bale’s Afro-alpine zone. The trail meanders through sweeping moorlands dominated by giant lobelias, dramatic ridgelines, and open plateaus offering stunning panoramic vistas of the wild highlands. This stark yet beautiful environment is rich in birdlife—watch for the blue-winged goose, wattled ibis, and chestnut-naped francolin, along with high-soaring bearded vultures and golden eagles that ride the thermals above. With each step, the solitude of the landscape deepens, immersing you fully in one of Ethiopia’s most untouched regions. Arrive at Wasama Camp, a peaceful valley campsite beside a freshwater stream, where you’ll rest and dine beneath a canopy of stars. Day 4
Today’s journey takes you deeper into the heart of the Bale Mountains as you trek from Wasama to the captivating crater lake of Gebre Guracha, often referred to as the “Black Lake.” This leg of the trek is both demanding and awe-inspiring, crossing several high-altitude passes, including elevations reaching approximately 4,200 meters. As you ascend, the landscape transforms into a vast Afro-alpine plateau dotted with giant lobelias and sweeping moorlands. Keep your eyes open for highland wildlife such as the elusive Ethiopian wolf, rock hyraxes, and majestic birds of prey. After about 6 to 7 hours of trekking over ~16 kilometers, you’ll descend slightly into the volcanic crater that cradles Gebre Guracha. Surrounded by dramatic peaks and alpine serenity, this pristine black lake offers a perfect setting for camping and reflection. Enjoy a peaceful evening by the lakeshore und. Day 5
Today’s adventure leads you into the otherworldly expanse of the Sanetti Plateau, one of Africa’s highest and most unique alpine ecosystems, sitting at elevations well above 4,000 meters. This vast, wind-swept landscape of open moorland is often likened to a rooftop of Africa, with sweeping views and eerie silence broken only by the wind or the occasional bark of an Ethiopian wolf—the world’s rarest canid. As you hike across the plateau, keep watch for these iconic predators stalking giant molerats, their primary prey, in this high-altitude habitat. The Sanetti Plateau is the best place on Earth to see Ethiopian wolves in the wild. Later, make your way up Tullu Dimtu (4,377 m), the second-highest peak in Ethiopia, offering dramatic panoramic views over the Harenna Forest and beyond. Depending on the itinerary and weather, you may camp on the plateau or descend via vehicle to Goba for a warm night’s rest at a local lodge. Luxury lodge located inside Bale Mountains NP Meals at own expense Drinks not included
Day 6
Leaving the stark, windswept heights of the Sanetti Plateau behind, today you descend dramatically into the lush, green world of the Harenna Forest, one of Ethiopia’s last remaining cloud forests. This transition marks one of the most striking ecological shifts in the country—from alpine moorlands to dense, moisture-rich woodlands teeming with life. Trek along moss-draped trails beneath towering hagenia and fig trees, listening to the calls of exotic birds and keeping watch for black-and-white colobus monkeys swinging overhead. The forest is also home to elusive lions and forest-dwelling warthogs, adding an element of wild mystery to the trek. Later in the day, immerse yourself in local culture with a visit to a traditional forest coffee farm, where heirloom Arabica coffee is grown under the forest canopy. Learn about age-old harvesting methods and enjoy a fresh cup brewed on-site. Tonight, settle into a serene eco-lodge or forest campsite, surrounded by nature’s nocturnal chorus. Day 7
After a transformative week immersed in the natural wonders of the Bale Mountains, today marks your journey back to Ethiopia’s bustling capital. Depart from the Harenna Forest and drive northward, taking either the scenic Shashamene or Adama route, both offering sweeping landscapes and glimpses into rural Ethiopian life. Along the way, you’ll stop for a traditional lunch at a local restaurant—perhaps enjoying injera with spicy wot or freshly roasted forest coffee—providing one last opportunity to engage with the culture and flavors of the south. Depending on timing and interest, there may be optional short visits to roadside villages, local markets, or Rift Valley viewpoints. As you near Addis Ababa, the rolling farmlands give way to the energy of urban life. Your tour concludes with a drop-off at your hotel or at Bole International Airport, filled with unforgettable memories of wildlife, wilderness, and highland hospitality. 5.0/5I had the most amazing time in Ethiopia with Peerless. Our guide Mulu and our driver Dave went above and beyond. My friend and I felt very well looked after at all times. We had once in a lifetime experiences, meeting tribes and learning about their culture and history. A highlight for me was seeing the hippos!!!! I would recommend this tour and this tour company to everyone!!!

We did the 7 Days Omo Valley & Arbaminch Cultural Tour and it did not disappoint! Muluye our guide was so much fun and very knowledgeable. Dave was our driver and he was excellent! Muluye and Dave really helped to make our trip memorable. Visiting the different tribes was fascinating! The accommodations were fine and the meals tasty. The only thing I would have done different would be to bring a bunch of pens, pencils, etc to give to the children in each village. I highly recommend Peerless and we are already planning to come back next year and do a tour of north Ethiopia.
Kareen · Nigeria
The view from Jemma George was absolutely breathtaking — a kind of awe even the Grand Canyon couldn’t quite match. The service provided by the professional guide and driver was outstanding, and now I understand why the company is called Peerless.

Despite a short itinerary, I was able to fully explore a fantastic mix of places in and around Addis Ababa: the beautiful churches and cathedrals, charming cafés, the bustling market alleyways, and even a memorable excursion to the outskirts. The combination of a knowledgeable, friendly guide who provided detailed explanations and a best-in-class driver meant I could visit every place I wanted safely and comfortably. I highly recommend this travel agency if you're looking for an enriching and safe trip to Ethiopia, whether you are traveling solo or as a group. They truly have the experience and expertise to make your Ethiopian journey seamless and unforgettable.
