Day 1
Upon arrival at Bujumbura International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by our local guide/driver. A private transfer will take you to the hotel, where you can unwind after your flight. Depending on your arrival time, you may have the opportunity to enjoy the scenic views of Lake Tanganyika or take a relaxing stroll along the lakeside. Day 2
The day begins with a guided city tour of Bujumbura, offering insight into the colonial past and vibrant culture of Burundi. You will visit key sites such as the Independence Monument, the Livingstone–Stanley Memorial, and the bustling Central Market. In the afternoon, you will drive to Rusizi National Park for a boat cruise along the Rusizi River. This peaceful excursion offers excellent opportunities to see hippos, crocodiles, and a variety of bird species in their natural wetland habitat. Day 3
After breakfast, you will depart for Gitega, the cultural capital of Burundi, located in the central highlands. The journey offers scenic countryside views. In Gitega, you will explore the National Museum, which houses an impressive collection of artifacts representing the country’s royal and colonial history. You will then visit the Gishora Drum Sanctuary, where traditional Burundian drumming is preserved and performed. The drummers, dressed in ceremonial attire, demonstrate the unique rhythms and movements that are part of a sacred tradition. Day 4
You'll depart Gitega and visit Karera Falls, a hidden gem surrounded by lush vegetation—perfect for photography and relaxation. You'll continue to the Burundi–Tanzania border. Then, you'll transfer to the lakeside town of Kigoma for an evening at leisure. Overnight: Kigoma Hilltop Lodge or similar Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner. Day 5
In the morning, you will explore the historical town of Ujiji, the site where explorer Henry Morton Stanley met Dr. David Livingstone in 1871. A visit to the Livingstone Memorial and museum provides context for this legendary moment in African exploration. Later in the day, you will embark on a boat ride along the shores of Lake Tanganyika to reach Gombe Stream National Park, one of Africa’s smallest but most fascinating national parks. Day 6
After an early breakfast, you will begin your trek into the forested hills of Gombe, accompanied by a park ranger. The goal of the day is to observe the park’s famous chimpanzees in their natural habitat. Gombe is known for being the site of Jane Goodall’s pioneering primate research, and the chimpanzees here are habituated to human presence. The trek can be moderately strenuous, depending on where the chimpanzees are located. In the afternoon, you may opt to visit Kakombe Waterfalls or enjoy a swim in Lake Tanganyika. Day 7
Following breakfast, you will depart Gombe by boat, returning to Kigoma. After lunch and a short rest, you will begin the cross-border return journey to Bujumbura. Day 8
Your final morning will be free for any last-minute shopping or leisure time at the hotel. 5.0/5We had an absolutely phenomenal trip to Uganda. We had short time due to work constraints and our group was all arriving at different times. Aaron was the best host, he was prompt, easy to communicate with and so engaging. He made the pick up seamless and all the transport seamless. We also got to unexpectedly squeeze in an extra excursion to the golden back monkeys after an epic day with the silver back gorillas which was so special! The accommodations were good and food was fine as well. We really enjoyed every moment of the trip with him and he was very easy to work with and allowed us to stop for photos and other random detours.

Aron and team communicated clearly from the get-go and were very flexible accomodating our group. We had three different arrival times into Kigali, including a 2:00 AM arrival. Aron was on time to pick us up for each arrival, and had all the logistics including lodging and interim activities to keep us entertained. We then drove into Uganda from Rwanda and stayed at Lake Buyoni for a quick rest before heading to see the gorillas and we arrived just in time for our trek. Seeing the gorillas was amazing, and quite the adventure to get to. Safari 2 Gorilla drove us to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest over some rough roads, but the drive was also beautiful. We stayed at Bwindi, and Aron was to drop us off in Mbarara the following day. We didn't have any time constraints so Aron suggested we go to Mgahangi National Park to see the Golden Monkeys, which was considerably out of his way. Overall, I would highly recommend Safari 2 Gorilla. Aron knows western uganda like the back of his hand, and is an excellent tour guide.

Our group of 6 booked a gorilla trek with Safari 2 Gorilla Tours after being recommended to this company by a friend. We were not disappointed. Aron communicated with us regularly leading up to our trip and helped us plan the perfect trek. We were collected at our accommodation and looked after extremely well by our driver from pick up until drop off the following day. Aron planned our accommodation in the Bwindi Forest which was incredible. Our trek was an unforgettable experience and one I would highly recommend to anyone. I would have no hesitation in recommending Gorilla 2 Safari Tours to anyone wanting to experience the beauty of Uganda and all it has to offer.

This was my second experience with Safari 2 Gorilla Tours. As with the first, Aron was an incredibly prompt and clear communicator, going above and beyond in answering questions, which was greatly appreciated, and extremely friendly and welcoming throughout the process. He makes every step clear, and set us up for a truly unforgettable experience in Mgahinga tracking a family of gorillas, being flexible with our travel constraints throughout the organizing. On this trip, my only hesitation was the per person cost for full board at the Gorilla Trek Camp, a perfectly fine accommodation, but based on our experience just a bit pricey compared to options of the same quality in other parts of the country. As a whole, I do not hesitate to recommend this company for organizing your own excursions in southwest Uganda!
