Day 1
Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by an English or French-speaking driver-guide from Iriza Tours & Safaris. Depending on your arrival time, you will begin exploring Rwanda’s clean and vibrant capital city. Your Kigali city tour will include visits to some of the city’s most important and fascinating attractions, including the Kigali Genocide Memorial where you will learn about Rwanda’s history and remarkable journey of reconciliation. You will also visit Kimironko Market, Kigali’s largest local market filled with fresh produce, colorful fabrics, local crafts, and everyday city life. The experience continues through Nyamirambo, one of Kigali’s oldest neighborhoods known for its vibrant culture, local life, and historical significance. After the tour, enjoy lunch at one of Kigali’s carefully selected restaurants before being transferred to your hotel for dinner and overnight stay. Day 2
After breakfast, your driver-guide from Iriza Tours & Safaris will pick you up from the hotel and begin the scenic journey toward Nyungwe National Park in southwestern Rwanda. Along the way, you will stop at the historic King's Palace Museum where you will learn about Rwanda’s traditional monarchy, royal traditions, and cultural heritage. This visit offers a deeper understanding of Rwanda’s history and way of life before colonial times. After lunch en route, continue through Rwanda’s beautiful rolling hills, tea plantations, and countryside landscapes before arriving at Nyungwe National Park in the evening. Day 3
After an early breakfast, head into the rainforest for an exciting chimpanzee trekking experience in Nyungwe Forest. This ancient rainforest is home to 13 species of primates, hundreds of bird species, and unique wildlife found within one of Africa’s most biodiverse ecosystems. Accompanied by experienced guides, you will hike through the forest trails searching for chimpanzees in their natural habitat while enjoying the sounds and beauty of the jungle around you. After the trek, return to the lodge for lunch before continuing to the famous Nyungwe Canopy Walk. Suspended high above the rainforest, the canopy bridge offers spectacular panoramic views across the forest canopy and surrounding mountains. Day 4
Following breakfast, you will check out and continue your journey toward the northern province of Rwanda, home to Volcanoes National Park. The drive offers beautiful scenery with rolling hills, local villages, lakes, and breathtaking mountain views along the way. Upon arrival near the park, you will check in at your lodge and enjoy lunch surrounded by the stunning volcano landscape. In the afternoon, you may enjoy optional activities such as visiting Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village to experience traditional Rwandan culture through dance, storytelling, and local traditions, or visit the Ellen DeGeneres Campus of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund to learn more about gorilla conservation and Dian Fossey’s legacy. Day 5
Today begins with an early breakfast before heading to the park headquarters for a briefing by park rangers about gorilla trekking procedures and conservation efforts. You will then begin your once-in-a-lifetime gorilla trekking adventure through the forested slopes of the Virunga Mountains in search of a habituated mountain gorilla family. Spending time observing these gentle giants in their natural habitat is one of Africa’s most unforgettable wildlife experiences. After the trek and lunch, continue to visit the scenic twin lakes of Lake Burera and Lake Ruhondo where you will enjoy beautiful views of the surrounding hills and volcanoes. Day 6
After breakfast, return to Volcanoes National Park for an exciting golden monkey trekking experience. These playful and energetic primates are unique to the Virunga region and are known for their lively movements through the bamboo forest. After the trek, begin your journey across Rwanda toward Akagera National Park, Rwanda’s only savannah national park and home to the Big Five. Day 7
After an early breakfast, head out for a morning game drive through the diverse landscapes of Akagera National Park. The park is home to elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, antelopes, lions, rhinos, and many other wildlife species. Following lunch and some relaxation at the lodge, continue for an afternoon boat safari on Lake Ihema where you may spot hippos, crocodiles, and numerous bird species along the lakeshore. Enjoy the peaceful atmosphere and beautiful sunset views before returning to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay. Day 8
After breakfast, check out from the lodge and begin your scenic drive back to Kigali with your driver-guide from Iriza Tours & Safaris. Depending on your departure schedule, you may enjoy a short stop in Kigali for shopping or relaxation before being transferred to Kigali International Airport for your onward flight or dropped off at your hotel.
