Your adventure begins early with a scenic 6–7 hour drive north to Samburu, passing through lush farmland, colorful roadside towns, and the dramatic slopes of Mount Kenya. Stop for a relaxed pit break at Trout Tree Restaurant in Nanyuki or a similar place (your guide will let you know), perfect for stretching your legs over a cup of fresh Kenyan coffee. Arrive in Samburu in the afternoon and check into your lodge. Wake to the calls of hornbills and the soft rustling of doum palms. Set off after breakfast for a full-day game drive through Samburu’s unique semi-arid wilderness. You’re in search of the “Samburu Special Five”—Beisa oryx, Somali ostrich, Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, and gerenuk. Stop for a picnic lunch beneath an acacia tree before continuing your search. In the late afternoon, visit a Samburu cultural village, where colorful beadwork, proud traditions, and warm storytelling connect you to Kenya’s rich heritage. Samburu to Ol Pejeta – Rhino & Chimpanzee Sanctuary
After breakfast, drive 3.5 hours south to Ol Pejeta Conservancy. Break the trip with a stop at Nanyuki town’s Java House or a similar place (your guide will let you know) a clean, safe spot for coffee, snacks, and restrooms. Arrive at Ol Pejeta just in time for lunch and check-in. Later, explore the sanctuary on an afternoon game drive—home to the Big 5, but most movingly, the last two northern white rhinos. You'll also visit the only chimpanzee sanctuary in Kenya, where you’ll witness their intelligence and stories of survival. Solomon is a highly competent and experienced driver and guide. On the very first day, he arrived at our guesthouse on time to pick us up, and his perfectly maintained 4x4 vehicle looked especially powerful and impressive. On the Maasai Mara plains, we saw several lion prides, countless wildebeest, zebras, and various other animals. Solomon was always the first to get information about animal sightings and quickly drove us there to witness them. We also saw many elephant herds in Amboseli National Park, and during a night drive in Amboseli, we encountered some animals we had never seen before — it was an amazing experience.
