Tembe Elephant Park, situated in far northern Kwa-Zulu Natal, is an unparalleled community conservation success story. The Tembe tribe owns and manages the Tembe Elephant Lodge on their ancestral land. The reserve is famous for the size of its elephants - this is where you can see some of Africa's biggest - as well as the rest of the Big 5. Tembe Elephant Park Lodge is the only lodge on the reserve, consisting of luxury tents with outdoor showers and a communal swimming pool.

Day 1
Durban - Tembe Elephant Park
Pick up your rental vehicle from the Durban airport and drive to Tembe Elephant Park Lodge, which is approximately 4 hours from the airport. You will receive a welcome drink upon arrival, and then settle in and enjoy an afternoon game drive (time permitting). Day 2
Tembe Elephant Park
The morning game drive starts at sunrise. You will be woken up before sunrise for a coffee and a light cold breakfast before the game drive starts. Then you are off for 3 hours to find as many animals as possible before they all find trees to hide under in the heat of the day. You will stop at the hide to observe animals at the watering hole. When the game drive returns to the lodge, you will be served a warm cooked breakfast and have time to relax. You can sit by the pool, read a book, take a nap and just absorb being out in the bush. The afternoon game drive will start around 15:00. You will return to the lodge in the dark, with a spotlight to look for nocturnal animals.
